Bourbon Barrel-Aged Chocolate Coffee Stout
KBS gets its coffee fix in the very first variant to come from our beloved bourbon barrel-aged stout. Yes, KBS may already be brewed with coffee, but it gets some extra oomph when it’s aged on espresso beans after being removed from barrels. The result is a fresh and snappy coffee twist on our classic barrel-aged beer. Who says you can’t start your day with a barrel-aged stout?

12 oz bottle from GM Liquors. Nose is big coffee with cocoa, vanilla, and bourbon. Black with a medium heavy lacing, cinnamon tan head. Flavor is lightly sweet, lightly bitter, with lots of expressions, and woody vanilla. Really nice!

Dark pour with a tall, fine-grained tan head. Bourbon, oak, tons of coffee, cacao nibs, chocolate, some vanilla. Soft, velvety mouthfeel, low carbonation. You can tell this is a KBS, with just a bit of extra coffee notes, compared to the non-espresso version. Right up my alley, since I am a fan of both KBS and good coffee.

Refrigerated 12 oz. squat brown bottle from shrubber85, bottled on November 14, 2019 poured into a snifter. Aroma is nice espresso, medium body, medium carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is espresso, chocolate, coffee, wood, and bourbon.

ABV: 12.0%. Clear dark black colour with a large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, coffee, strong coffee, espresso, alcohol, rich, green coffee - coffee vegetable. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light bitter with a long duration, sugary coffee, coffee, smooth, creamy, espresso, rich, balanced. Body is medium to full, texture is creamy - smooth, carbonation is soft, finish feel is warming and light alcoholic. [20201113]

12 oz bottle poured, picked up at Hop and Hound. Dense, midnight black pour, off white foam head and lacing. Big expectations for this brew, and I'd say it met them with ease. Really nice brew here. Really nice aroma of espresso. Chocolate covered coffee beans of I had to try and describe it best. Smooth taste. Rich, but not bothersome. Lingering coffee and dark chocolate bitterness here. A touch aggressive with the specific bitterness, but I want it to be. I don't know if I can call this variant more impressive to me than the base beer itself, but it has to be close. Really well made brew here.

12 oz bottle dated 10.15.20. Pours black with a brown head. Aroma heavy on roasty coffee, notes of bourbon and chocolate. Flavor is strong on coffee and bitter cocoa, mixing in some bourbon, vanilla. Reminds me of chocolate-covered cacao nibs, but better. Very nicely done.
