28 April 2019. At Zythos Bierfestival. Cheers to Anke, 77ships & tderoeck! Hazy golden, lasting, thin, unstable, foamy, white head. Aroma of orange peel, grass, onion, bell peppers, mango, yellow grapefruit. Taste is light to medium fruity sweet, notes of orange, apple & pear, bitter notes of grapefruit & mandarin peel, a bit piney & grassy, leading to a dry, hoppy finish where fruit rinds & yeast linger. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Decent, drinkable IPA, maybe a bit too ‘Belgian’ still.

One of the three first beers from this contract brewery, set up by an enterprising young lady, with the beers actually being brewed at Brasserie Minne (formerly Bastogne). This one is flavoured with mugicha, a Japanese form of roasted barley which is not normally used in brewing, but for making barley tea. Egg-white, creamy, dense and stable head on a misty ochre-hued 'old gold' coloured beer. Aroma of ripe pear, banana, stewed apple, dry old bread, hay, an 'animalistic' urine- and sweat-like note (even clear Brettanomyces 'horseblanket') and indeed something quite distinctly herbal, almost tea-ish, but subtle and subordinate to the Brett effect. Fruity onset, sweet peach, banana and pear, softish carb, soft bready and fluffy mouthfeel, quickly shifting to outspoken retronasal Brettanomyces effects (wet hay, horseblanket, stale urine) and ending with long, leafy, eventually even somewhat astringent hop bitterness. Not a bad beer per se: the muchiga is rather unnecessary for me - it's the Brett, intentional or not, that makes this beer more interesting rather than the muchiga...

28/IV/19 - sample @ Zythos Bierfestival 2019 (Leuven), BB: n/a - (2019-645) Thanks to nathanvc, 77ships & Anke for sharing today's beers!
Clear orange blond beer, creamy white head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: soapy, some artificial brett, bit funky, green apples, sourish impression, rather unpleasant. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: little bitter, banana, yeasty, sweet malts, little biter. Aftertaste: rather soapy, unpleasant bitterness, not a very good beer…
