The basebeer of this ale, is a robust Imperial Stout , called Aupa Tovarich. It was aged with woodchips soaked in brandy and cognac. Only one keg made, so expect this one to be .rar !

One of then ten beers made for kraddel's "10K Madness" event at Beerlovers Bar, tasted there from tap a week later; Aupa Tovarich which has received the wood chip aging treatment, with those wood chips soaked in both brandy and whisky apparently. Medium thick, frothy, yellowish beige, moussy head, very dark chestnut brown robe bordering on black. Aroma of hazelnut oil, walnut liqueur, soaking wet wood chips indeed, cognac more than whisky, dry sherry, soy sauce, bitter chocolate, fresh paint, dried blackberries. Sweetish onset, candied figs and dried prunes, sourish edge and a thin soy sauce-like umami effect adding fullness, medium fizz, full and oily mouthfeel, tad vinous. Deeply caramelly and walnutty malt body with black chocolatey edge, profoundly malty but acquiring colour and complexity in the finish, where indeed a brandy- and whisky-like booziness sets in, very warming but avoiding unpleasant wryness yet still very hot, with pleasant wet wood tannins added for good measure as well as a spicy hop bitter note. Ends spicy, very warming and quite complex. Very filling, a bit much perhaps, but in any case a slow sipper of high standard and to me one of the most successful kraddel 10K beers - at least of the few I managed to catch up with a week after the actual event. I most regret that I missed the Oud Beersel one, however...

Thanks! Sampled draft @ Kraddel's 10K Madness. Black, thick creamy mocha head. Nose is too alcoholic, sharp Cognac, chocolate syrup, chocolate bars, sweet malt. Taste is chocolate, bit sweeter coffee, very syrupy with faint roast & hint soy sauce, too much booze from the hard liquor,… Thick low soy sauce syrup. Overall very tasty but definitely not my favourite version of Aupa Tovarisch due to the presence of too much harsh alcohol. Music - well I love Iron Maiden.

Draught Very dense & fine, compact tan head, utterly stable over virtually black beer. Felt, chalk, ashes, bit insectoid, oilpaint. Dry stout flavour, but with little or no classical stout acidity. Finish has a caramel-like sweetness, nowhere cloying. Liquorice in the finish, where the spirit comes out to, brandy. Very slick to viscous/oily, low carbonation, some alcoholheat. Bit punch-in-the-face, boozy, but still good!

28/VII/18 - on tap @ Kraddel's 10K event, Beerlovers Bar (Antwerpen) - BB: n/a (2018-915) Thanks to Ama Deke for sharing the beer!
Clear dark brown beer, small creamy beige head, pretty stable, bit adhesive, falls down to a small layer of foam. Aroma: pretty boozy, caramel, some alcohol, whisky, slightly smoky, sweetish impression. MF: soft carbon, medium body, some alcohol burn, very boozy. Taste: bit sourish, roasted, some coffee, alcohol, whisky, pretty bitter, more booze. Aftertaste: alcohol, whisky, apple brandy, more roast, bitter touch.

Tap at Kraddel's 10K Madness, congrats Dylan! Pun on Iron Maiden - Fear Of The Dark. Black color with beige head. Aroma is cognac, chocolate, a touch soy sauce, wood. Taste is cognac, honey, chocolate, nice wood character, a touch umami. Oily mouthfeel with low carbonation. Good one, though the soy is also quite heavy in this.

This beer was made as a part of my event for my 10.000th beer rating. This is one out of 10 beers made for the event. The idea here was to make an oak aged imperial stout, just like my own original home brew that was also named beer of the dark, after iron maidens 'fear of the dark'. Pours black, médium small tanned head. Smell is strong, bit booze, oak, cognac, dark roasty malts, chocolate. Taste is sharp, roasty. Burnt, cognac, oak, bit boozy. Amazing cocoa forward ending. A great impy. Full bodied, intense. Very malty ending. Nice ! Epic thx to laugar for joking forces on this one!
