Thank you for sharing tderoeck & Rubin77. 500 ml. bottle sampled @ LIBF 2017. Black syrup with no head. Nose is soy sauce, umami, thick varnish, alcoholic. Taste is decent soy sauce, mocha, chocolate, umami, liquorice, age doesn’t show but makes sense with this much soy sauce, too alcoholic, harsh alcoholic, very thick soy sauce body. Fair & heavy, bit crude but does the trick.

Clear black beer, no head. Aroma: sweet, malty, caramel, lots of chocolate, some vanilla. MF: soft to no carbon, medium to full body. Taste: nice sweet start, lots of chocolate, roasted, some coffee, really good stuff. Aftertaste: sweet, more chocolate, lots and lots of alcohol are noticeable in the throat, bitter touch in the finish, good roast. Lovely beer!

Keg @ The Salthouse, Galway [170414]
This was set of one-off kegs available at all 9 Galway Bay bars in Galway and Dublin for one day only
Pitch black, no light through, rich tan head, good lacing, excellent appearance
Aroma of rich sweet dark malts, soft roast, slight vanilla, hint of soy
Taste of rich dark malts, dark chocolate, meaty malts, sweet rich dark malts, alcohol well hidden, very soft coffee notes, some savoury malts, soft dark fruits, slight vanilla, not getting much of the whisky from the barrel aging which is a good thing (maybe just the vanilla and dark fruits)
Palate - Soft carb, full body, oily rich texture, smooth, mouth coating dark malts, slight tangy palate .Finish as main flavour, smooth, rich dark malts, slightly dry
Overall - Not tried the bottle but this is a superb impy stout. It’s my #1 Irish beer.

Bottle from Dark Horse offie. Pours a thick oily dark brown pour into the tulip glass, small tan head is gone quickly. Some lacing, but not enough to matter. Lovely juicy dark fruit aroma, figs and daqrk chocolate covered cherries. Deep roasted coffee beans and dark cocoa flavor. Not the most complex of IS’s out there but also one of the easiest on the palates, this is velvety smooth, lovely finish. Outstanding beer from a brewer that is setting a new standard for Irish craft beer.

Bottle very generously from Garthicus, Thanks a bunch Al and glad we could meet up in London. Batch 032 BBE Feb 2016. Black beer thick lasting tan head. Now I haven’t had an imperial stout in ages. Due to all that German lager and all those session ipas what I’ve been drinking. Some roast malt and dark bitter choc on aroma. I must admit it’s not a huge aroma. Perhaps it needs to warm up a bit. Little bit of tangerine sweetness from the barrel ageing on the aroma. It’s, well, I’m not sure. I think it could be really good, but I’m not sure after that first taste. It has some dark chocolate which I like and the whiskey element is not overly obvious which I like and I do like the satsuma tangerine flavour it lend to the beer. It’s quite full in the mouth, it has some pate. A whiff of newspaper stout dryness. I mean it does intrigue me, which not many impy stouts do. But as I say I haven’t had one in a while so it’s a bit of a novelty this evening too. Ok, so where is this beer? It has some good elements, the dark choc, the barrel ageing. There’s still a bit of a hole in the malts though. I like smooth, agile effortless impy stouts or ones that completely take over your senses. No real hop presence. It’s fine. But there is just a little newspaper emptiness there. Still an interesting Irish impy stout.
