This beer is called Heksen & trollen, that translates as Witches & Trolls. Why? We know why but we don't tell! The beer is a Saison, an old Belgian and northern France beer-style. At high temperatures fermented to make it very spicy and refreshing. Lots of citrus in the taste, but with a bitter finish. Light cloudy, blond. Formally known as White Witch

Gusher. Huge fizzy-bubbly longlasting head, hazy. Aroma is floral, co2 stinging in the nose, flowers, yeast, leafs, minerals, pepper corn, weeds, hay, bark, pine needles, hops, grass. Taste is slightly harsh mineraly, weeds, yeast, minerals, bark, flowers, pepper corn, pine needles, hops, grass, hay, soap. Longlasting bitterness, slightly dry and harsh mineraly mouthfeel. Fair enough, kind of interesting.

(Bottle, Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 29 Aug 2015, as "Heksen & Trollen") Golden colour with frothy, white head. Malty, spicy nose with notes of bread, grass, hay, coriander and earthy hops. Malty, fruity taste with citrus, grass, hay and a balanced spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Fresh and tasty saison with a spicy, earthy hop character. Nice one.

Unclear yellow color with a fine white head. Nice citric, farmhouse yeast and fruity ale. Refreshing and nice. Unfortunately enjoyed when Holland crashed out of the European championship qualifying against Czech Republic. Sad but true.

Draft. A hazy yellow beer with a white head. The aroma has notes of straw, lemons, and a bit of spice. The flavor is sweet with notes of straw, lemons, yeast, and spices, leading to a dry finish. A good thirst quencher, I would like more emphasis on the Saison yeast.

0.33 l bottle as "Heksen & Trollen" from De Bierkoning, 6.1% abv, bottled in July 2015. Clear, golden yellow with a large, foamy, almost stable, white head. Fruity-grassy aroma of lemon balm, peach, gooseberry and pineapple. Slightly sweetish, fruity-grassy taste of lemon, gooseberry and pineapple, followed by a medium bitter, grassy and minimally peppery finish. Thin to medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, average to lively carbonation. Very aromatic but the taste does then not live up to the expectations. Still very refreshing but the smell promised more.
