Born Yesterday feat. fresh hops rushed from farm-to-brewery in under 24 hrs!

If we could bottle the smell of harvest time in Yakima Valley, WA, we would. Hell, we try every year! Today we get the next best thing: Born Yesterday. See, once hops are harvested, the flavor clock starts ticking’. So we rush a select bunch of whole-cone ‘wet’ hops on refrigerated trucks straight to Lagunitas. In less than 24hrs they arrive and immediately drop into this brew via a stoopid custom-built contraption, injecting all their precious aromatics. Special delivery indeed. Congratulations, it’s a beer!

12oz bottle pours with a near clear deep gold body that supports an off white head. The aroma offers up pineapple, tangerine and spicy notes of sweet onion. The taste delivers smooth fairly rich pineapple and tangerine running up into spicy bitter dry onion hoppiness. Nice stuff and going down way too easy. Wow! Love this.

Bottle 2017 version. Gold with a white head that lasts very well. Aroma of kumquats, some pineapple and herbs, light bread. Sweet and clean, dominated by round bittersweet citrus flavours. Minor tropical notes. Finish is more dry than bitter. Very nice, if a little strong for what it offers.

On tap at Red Cow North Loop. Pours a clear yellow gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has a combination of onion and citrus with grass and grains underlying. Flavor has a combination of grass, onion and citrus with a light sweet grain backbone.

Bottle from Red. Pours a slightly hazy gold with a finger of foam that lingers. Big dank grass aromas with durian, grapefruit and citrus. Prickly bitterness on the palate, with grapefruit, tangerine and more pithy citrus. Light and dry, classic west coast style. Lingering dank grassiness that permeates throughout. Could drink this year-round.

Keg at the Waterloo Tap, 27/07/17. Hazed orange golden with a well presented off white head. Nose is caramel, citric kissed straw, orange peel, melon, light bread. Taste comprises orange pith, caramel malts, light pine dusting, melon, toasted bread. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a good level of hop bitterness. Decent well balanced APA with an old skool bite.

Bottle from QClub at home. Slightly hazy golden copper pour with bone white head. Aroma is nice - dank zesty hops with pineapple. Taste is similar but less zesty and more piney bitterness, slightly unfresh tasting but not as bad as I thought. Lingering vegetal bitterness. Some boozy warmth. Not bad - would probably be really good fresh.
