Duelling Scarabs showcases the Chinook hop in a big, juicy DIPA. Typically a bittering hop, we love what Chinook does with the citrus family. Plenty of dry hopping has layered on rich lashings or orange flesh and chewy grapefruit peel. Our house yeast provides a smoother edge, and lends some tropical notes that wraps up in a full bodied finish.

(Draught at Moeder Lambic Fontainas, Brussels, 19 Oct 2019) Cloudy golden colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with citrus, pineapple, mango and pine needles. Fruity, hoppy taste with notes of grapefruit, pineapple, resin, pine needles and a generous citric, resiny bitterness. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. A bit sharp and fairly powerful, but really tasty and hoppy. Nice one.

Can. Pours a hazy peachy orange with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has some earthy grains and wet pine with a touch of sweetness underlying. Flavor has musty pine and a bit of citrus rind with musty sweet grains and wet straw backing.

Can. Hazy orange gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, semi dry and with decent fine carbonation. Thin creamy sweet malts, dry milky sweetness too boot. Smooth pine and somewhat less smooth pithy orange and light orange peel, touch of tangerine. Light dry finish. Kudos for doing a single hop dipa but this wants something else going on.

11/XI/19 - 44cl can from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ home, BB: 2/III/20, canned: 2/IX/19 (?) - (2019-1821)

Little cloudy orange beer, big creamy solid yellowish head, stable, bit adhesive, leaving some lacing in the glass. Aroma: lots and lots of overripe pineapple, citrus, fruity, hints of blackberries, ripe melons. MF: soft carbon, creamy texture, medium body. Taste: very bitter, right from the start, hars resinous bitterness, almost chemical, bit medicinal, some citrus notes. Aftertaste: very bitter, grapefruit, bitter orange peel, ripe pineapples, slightly oxidized, tropical fruits, really bitter finish, even for me this is a little too bitter, alas.

Paired nicely with a roasted beets and goat cheese spread/dip with pistachios.

On tap at Roor, Oslo. Hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma of hops, citrus, grapefruit and some light malt. The same in the taste. The finish was bitter and with warming alcohol.
