We designed a traditional dry stout with amber and dark malts and some English hops with the intention of adding in some tasty blackberries to give a true hedgerow experience. As it happened we ended up adding rather a lot of tasty blackberries, 90 grams per litre in fact, that’s over 50g a pint!! The result is a beautiful, dark, rich beer with a suggestion of dark fruit on the nose followed by a delicious stout with a pleasantly tart acidity from early season blackberries.

Monday 30th Sep 2019; Shrewsbury Monthly Share in Chez Sophie. Cheers Simon for this 440ml can. Black with a beige head. Malty brew with less Blackberries than 'adverised', liked it even if the aroma and flavours were not full on Blackberry in nature.

440ml can @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Sep 19. Pours black, pillowy foamy pale tan head. Not much blackberry coming through on the nose, some soft roast. Taste presents a toasty stout, but very little blackberry presence unfortunately, though there is some dark fruit hints. Not great for what it aims to be.

Cask @ Port Street Beer House, Manchester. Black with a creamy off-white head. Has a nutty aroma and a gritty taste, with some blackberry evident.
