Bottle gift from brother – drank at home. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with medium sized frothy beige head. There’s roasted malts, chocolate and hints of coffee in the aroma. In the mouth there is a brief creamy sweetness before sharpish bitterness comes through. Flavour has roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, traditional hops, liquorice and hints of crusty bread. Finish is quite dry. This is rather nice – though tending more towards a black IPA than a stout methinks.

Hand-pulled pint in the Pheasant Inn & Brewpub, Wellington Shropshire on 15th January 2024. Black bodied, beige/lightly tanned crust. Contains Barley and Wheat according to the pump clip. Anyway it's malty, fairly dry and tasty. Can you have an easy going Stout? If so then this is one!

330ml bottle picked up from a garage near Bala - Deep brown body, off white to beige head. Nose is dusty cocoa, touch of liquorice and coffee. Taste similar, bitter bite to it. Pretty dry.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Appearance - very dark brown to black. Some orangey brown chinks by the rim. Nose - burnt toffee going into molasses. Brown bread. Taste - burnt toffee and over baked bread again. Palate - crunchy texture and dry toasty finish. Medium bodied. Overall - confused as style on RB says black IPA while bottle says stout. Definitely more in stout territory.

Cask @ Salopian, the pub. Pours dark ruby, aroma has gently sweet dark malt. Taste bears chocolate with coconut hints, light roast, dark malts. Body seems quite smooth and oily perhaps. Tastes like it's probably at the end of the barrel, so scored objectively.
