Back in July, we had the pleasure of brewing up a monster imperial stout with Damian from Emperor's Brewery. With plenty of sour cherry purée, cacao nibs, 150kg of muscavado sugar, and aged in Heaven Hill Distillery bourbon barrels.

Victorian Craft Beer Cafe Back In Black Beer Festival 2025, Beer#4. Black, with the least amount of head of the three I've just ordered. Not boozy at all for its strength in its crisp, sweet taste, although a little bit in its aroma. Liquorice for flavour.

On tap at Hereford Beer House Saturday 18th October 2025 in the company of Baz and Isobel. Pours pitch black with a light beige filmy head. Immediately picking up the barrel ageing, guessing it's bourbon. There's a little bit of a tanginess, liquorice and chocolate, some tart cherry, however mostly liquorice led, good.

440ml can. Pours jet black with a thin tan head. Aroma of cherries, chocolate, brown sugar. Taste is sickly sweet, cherry puree, syrupy, chocolate, sugar, a bit of barrel, oak. Full body, smooth but sticky, soft carbonation. My final beer of 2018 and a great way to round out the year, so rich, but so damn sweet, the alcohol is pretty well integrated.

440ml can from Coracle, drunk at home. Pours black, slowly forming deep tan head. Strange aroma, some cherry, chocolate, nutty, some distant heaven hill. Smooth and full on the palate. Some prominent palate-coating chocolate, good cherry presence that works well, a touch jammy and not too dominating though it does start to nudge more prominently into view. Heaven Hill barrel aging is similarly light and well integrated, though would've welcomed a little more. Pretty full on chocolate. Decent effort.

Can from Hoptimism. Cloudy deep almost black reddish brown with a thin tan head. Aroma and taste chocolate, roasted malty, slightly sour cherry. Warming alcohol and light sweet.
