Traditional Welsh Ale. Gwydion was a wizard and a hero from the legends of the Mabinogi which are rooted in Dyffryn Nantlle. Dark, strong and magical – Gwydion the legend and Gwydion the beer share many of the same attributes. The careful combination of natural ingredients and the brewing process itself create a tasty ale with a memorable flavour. Enjoy!

Bottle shared in London - from Bread danny. Pours clear gold with a foamy white head. Pretty basic, has some leaves, toasted grains, earth. Light bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with more leaves, husky grains, British yeast. So so.

Craft Islington. Bottleshare. Thanks to Dan. Clear amber beer, small cream colour head. Light and fairly dry palate, reasonable fine carbonation. Dry malts, mildly sweet. Dry tangy citrus. Dried fruits. Light dry finish. Mild bitternes. Dry finish. Okay.

Gravity poured half-pint at the 8th Annual Beer Festival at The Bridge End Inn, Ruabon on 25th August 2017. Misty pour, dark amber being the body colour. Malty brew with a nutty undertone, fairly sweet throughout with a caramel flavour to the fore. A few more hops for some bitterness would have enhanced the beer even more in my opinion. Still liked it though.

Cask at the Black Boy Inn, Caernarfon. Pours clear golden amber with a thin white head. Aromas of light malt, light sweet fruits, biscuit. Taste is more of the same. Nice biscuity finish. Good esb.

500ml bottle from Stori, Bala. Doesn’t pour particularly dark for a Welsh dark ale. I’d tend to agree with the ESB categorisation. Pours a nice glowing amber, small off-white head. Aroma has a healthy caramel presence, lightly nutty. Taste continues with the nutty caramel theme, fairly light bodied with nods towards dark berry fruits. Pleasant ESB.

Found at a tiny pub in Caernarfon. Has an okay nut aroma, with nice cream head and dark copper body. Flavour is malty notes with a hint of hops. Mouthfeel is medium and refreshing. It’s a pretty good ale with some interesting aspects.
