Keg at the earl of Essex. A hazed dark brown coloured pour with a fine beige head. Aroma is dry powdered chocolate, hint of orange, dry roast,. Palate is dry woody grains moderate carbonation, drying finish. Little thin. Flavour is composed of stale woody grains, tired powdered choc, tangy finish. Meh. Not much orange character.

Keg at EoE. It pours cloudy deep brown with a small beige head. The aroma is sweet, earthy roast, coffee, cocoa, Terry’s chocolate orange and some musty farmyard. The taste is bitter, earthy, cocoa, toasty wood, nut, oily orange, zesty and earth with a drying finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. A bit muddled perhaps, but overall OK.

Keg @ Tilt. Pours clear brown, small beige head. Milk chocolate and dark malt aroma. Just enough soft cocoa and subtle chocolate orange flavours.. the flavours are there, but in a relatively mild dose. Decent.

Keg at the Cock Tavern - Hackney. One of my new locals! Pours clear brown with a thick, creamy tan head. The aroma holds lightly toasted brown bread, citrus peel, slight earthy notes. Light-medium sweet flavour with more toasty bread, zesty orange, gain pine, vague toffee, suggestions of dusty cocoa. Light bodied with active, massaging carbonation. Finishes with some jammy berries, a little orange rind, low bitterness, subtle floral notes. Pretty restrained overall. Not bad.
