Gouden Carolus Indulgence [Indulgence, something that is done or enjoyed as a special pleasure] is a limited series of beers brewed every year with varying content. These ‘Indulgence’ brews are exclusive delights to be savoured at special moments or shared with special people.
Botanik is the 3rd taste expression released under this label. A special blond beer was brewed using barley and wheat for this purpose. A selection of 4 natural botanicals was added during the ageing process: elderflower, angelica root, cloves and rosemary. A pleasantly surprising bouquet!

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is herbal and floral with elderflower, rosemary, grassy notes, light malt, some clove and lavender. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and moderate bitter. Body is medium. Very grassy and floral/herbal, sweetish. Belgian floral herbal garden ale, enjoyable.

Draft at Lemmys, Leiden. Poured a hazy golden colour with a lasting frothy white head. The aroma is malt, floral hops. The flavour is moderate bitter, with a smooth, rich, toffee caramel, dry, herbal, floral hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.

Draught @ SKAAL Sønderborg. Pours slightly hazy straw with stable white head. Clear aroma of malt and fruit, with touches of yeast and flowers, and hitns of hops. Bitter flavourof hops and citrus, with notes of elderflower and malt, and estery touches. Spicy finish with touches of yeast and notes of malt and hops. Reasonable, although I prefer other forms of Indulgence.

75cl Bottle. Shared with ronnemos1. Pours hazy golden with a small white head. Yeasty and malty. Very balanced. Some spicy esters and plenty of green. Leaves and thyme and basil like but well integrated and it works. Late warmth.

5 year-old 75 cl bottle from Be Hoppy, Madrid. A hazy honey-hued pour with an ivory-colored, thick, long-lasting head. Aroma is rather low but very diverse: honey, porridge, coriander, lemon peel, custard, vanilla, bergamot, speculoos, parsley... Many many things. Mouthfeel starts dry and crisp, with a mouth-filling, umami-laden sip. Long-lasting, sweet-at-first finish that shifts immediately to a dry one, full of vanilla and lemon. Very interesting, better if shared.

(Bottle) Golden colour, slightly hazy, with frothy white head. Fruity nose with notes of citrus, lemon peel, herbs, elderflower, rosemary, white bread and white pepper. Fruity, spicy taste with lemon, lime, citrus, tropical fruit, herbs, elderflower, bread, honey, a touch of yeast and a mild spicy bitterness. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Elegant and really tasty. Very nice.
