Created in partnership with our next door neighbors, Intelligentsia Coffee, Café de Olla is inspired by the traditional Mexican beverage of the same name. We added coffee beans and cold coffee to Original Bourbon County Stout and then enhanced this beer further through additions of cassia bark, orange peel, and panela sugar. The resulting beer is layered in complexity. Coffee and orange permeate the nose and are followed by notes of cinnamon, chocolate, and a pleasant sweetness.

Taste comprises coffee bean, chocolate, spice, molasses, dark malts, bourbon nip. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced rising boost. Solid work.

Pours a black body and a small brown head that quickly disappears. Aroma's: sweet, cola, bourbon, fudge, roasty, hints of umami and some coconut at first. Retronasal: sweet, bourbon, light coffee, a bit almond/marzipan. Flavour is above moderate sweet, chocolate, fudge, light roasty and a hint of (coffee?) sour. Full bodied. Alcohol feel is a little sharp. Long finish.

Bottle shared in Canary Wharf - cheers to Mr. Tipple. Pours clear, black-brown with a foamy, khaki head. Medium to heavy sweet flavour, some bitter dark chocolate, chocolate gateaux, mild coffee, raisins, sturdy roast, mild earthy bitterness. Full bodied, lightly oily and chewy, with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish, rich dark malts, some more raisins, earth, baking cocoa. Good stuff.

Canary Wharf bottleshare. Thanks to Tips. Opaque black brown beer, small tan head. Smooth palate, mildly dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, smooth dark chocolate, a decent malt creamy sweetness. Chocolate syrup. Fair bit of spice. Something like maple and smooth rich coffee. Quite a spicy finish. Delish!
