Sampled at Max's Belgian fest 2024. Pours a murky orange, no head. Nose has sour orange mojo, lemon, funky barrel. Flavor has lemon and horse, natural wine. High acid finish.

Tørst draught, 4/29/23. Light haze, white head to cover. Soft and yet tart with really interesting plum notes showing candy (smartees) and with a bit of lacto-acetic culture behind it. Lovely, leathery fruit with skin, light flesh and heavy acid in the finish (lactic, malic). Good funk, good tartness up front. Lotta acid in the finish but compelling fruit.

New plum lambic in the third round of experimental fruit lambics, not with the Altesse Simple variety that is used in the (now) classic Oude Quetsche, but with a more familiar variety, the Reine Claude (probably the one you’ll find the most frequently in Belgian and Dutch supermarkets). Thin and open, small-bubbled, snow white head on a hazy, pale orangey apricot blonde robe. Aroma of unripe green plum and plum skin rather than the fleshy sweetness of ripe Reine Claude I was expecting, lemon rind, grass silage, old bread crust, old dry wood, dust, sour apple, kefir, gooseberry. Tart onset, very softly carbonated (but actually unexpectedly carbonated at all, considering this is unblended lambic), lots of green gooseberry and sour apple effects sourly surrounding a more wry and astringent green plum aspect; supple body, lots of drying lactic tartness and tannic ‘old’ woodiness, rustic, with a dash of plum sweetness peeping through faraway at the back – mitigating the overall rather sharp sourness and adding balance and complexity, without becoming pronounced in any way. Compared with the unblended Quetsche lambic that serves as the basis for the bottled Oude Quetsche and which I had years ago but still vividly remember, this one is far less fruity and much more lambic-forward, whereas I was actually expecting the opposite. I think a bit more Reine Claude sweetness and fleshiness could turn out lovely, but in this form, it is still a complex, dry, bit funky and overall refined lambic.

Draft @ Tilquin 10ième Anniversaire - 2ième wknd.

8/V/21 - on tap @ Tilquin brewery (Rebecq), BB: n/a (2021-364) Thanks to Alengrin for sharing the beers!

Pretty cloudy deep orange beer, small creamy white head, stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: lots of brett, nice and funky, sweet ripe fruits, some apples and pears, good stuff! MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty funky, bitter, dry and spicy, bit herbal, lemony, some orange juice, good but the fruit is very subtle! Aftertaste: some bitter fruit skin and pits, tannins, very acidic, lemon juice, herbal, spicy, mouth puckering dryness, decent beer, but the Reine Claude is very very very subtle!
