We've taken a gargantuan amount of Bavarian beech smoked barley, renowned for its rich, smoky-bacon flavour, and filled our mash run to its maximum not once but twice to create an intense high strength barley wine. The beer was given a lengthy boil to add a depth of caramel sweetness, and once fermented, was aged in brand new American virgin oak barrels adding a further layer of fresh oak smokiness.

Double Denim.

Pours black with nice tan head, heavy and smoked aroma, alcoholic, lots of charred oak, strong and firm, vanilla, some peat, caramel, thick, creamy, toasted, enjoyable

Layered yellow-cream-tan head over red-shot black beer. Complex nose with different vectors, but all mild: smoke, hops, dark malts. Faint ashy, phenols. Smoke, bitter and sweet-ish. Some chocolate, velvet, and always this subtle smoke running through. Faint orange-like acidity. Very well-bodied, alcoholheat, faintly burning MF. Very good, lightly smoked Barley wine.

Dark brown with thin head. Aroma has dark malts and plenty of smokiness but with touches of wood too. Flavour has a meaty smokey note at first. Background vanilla. Slightly salty aftertaste.

(Draught at BrewDog Shepherds Bush, London, 24 Nov 2019) Dark brown colour with brief, brown head. Malty, vinous nose with caramel, dark bread, dried fruit, raisins and figs. Malty, vinous taste with notes of dried fruit, caramel, smoke, wood, rye bread and a warming finish with a mild spicy bitterness. Full body, sweet. A bit boozy, but rich and tasty. Very nice.

330 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with light head Aromas of smoked bacon and caramel Flavors of maple syrup and bacon on a caramel malt base. Can’t say Barley wine but a unique sweet Rauchbier. Neat. Under-rated.

Almost opaque dark amber beer, small tan head. Smooth and softish palate, some slight viscosity, reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth malts, mild creamy sweetness. Touch of marmite, soft and we'll buried. Maybe some oaky smoothness but no big vanilla notes. A little spice and ripe fruits. Smooth finish. It's fine but wants something else going on.

Bottle. Dark brown color. Smoked ham, dried fruit in the aroma. Full bodied. Malty sweet, fresh oak, smoked beechwood and ham, dried fruit, grassy notes. Crazy stuff, but I like it.

Keg at BD Mighty Boost, 01/11/19. Light murk on chestnut brown pour with a decent beige head. Nose is fruit cake, toffee, dates, light booze, tobacco, light brown sugars. Taste comprises toffee, cocoa sprinkle, dark fruit rinds, light spice, brown bread. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced rising boost. Decent old skool leaning no frills barley wine that weighs in below its stated ABV.
