Half-pint, draught at the Moor Beer Vaults. Shared with Finn. Almost black in the glass, spotty lacing from a fawn-coloured head. Attractive dark malty aromas, chocolate to the fore, semi-dry, fine roasted. Dark malt-driven taste as well, impacts of liquorice, dark caramel, and black chocolate. Oaky. Lingering, rounded, finish with well roasted chocolate malts. Warming all the way back to the hotel, after a great session at the Moor Vaults. (Bermondsey, London 10.02.2023).

Can at home in Hackney - picked up at the Vaults. Pours black-brown with a dense, format tan head. Nice throwback impy, rich ashy roast, rounded malts, scorched earth, baking cocoa. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish, more rich dark malts, leather, dried berries, espresso, bitter dark chocolate. Exceptional.

Can at home. Pours black with a fine sheet of head. Aroma is dark malts, coffee, tar, licorice, a bit burnt. Big body. Flavour is big and malty, with a very nice malt profile. Exactly the right amount of roastiness, with a good caramel sweetness. Some licorice and tar, but not really lots o burnt notes. Quite a bit of espresso hints. Medium to high bitterness. Finish is medium long and quite dry, with espresso and tobacco notes. A very classic Imperial stout without any frills. Very nice.
