One of the first beers, if not the first, from this brand new microbrewery in Kontich near Antwerp, presented as a hop-forward saison - a deliberate combination of two general trends in present-day beer culture. Very thick and rocky (clearly hops-enhanced), eggshell-white head, hazy ochre-tinged peach blonde robe. Aroma of wet hay, dried banana, some DMS (cooked white cabbage), old lemons, peach candy, pineapple, bread crumbs. Fruity onset, apricot, pineapple and banana notes, sharp and bit numbing carbonation - a saison is supposed to be effervescent but the bubbles are just too large and coarse here to be fully agreeable. Bready malt base with a very thin caramelly edge, hop bittering finish, earthy and leafy, bitter honey, dried wormwood leaves, juicy maltiness remaining. Hop-forward Belgian blonde, but lacking in 'new' aromatic hoppiness to qualify as a modern IPA and in dryness, crispness and hayish 'rurality' to qualify as a saison - issues which occur constantly in Belgian IPAs and new saisons alike.

Thanksl! Sampled bottle @ Modeste 2017. Hazy orange. Nose is strangely soapy with banana. Taste is soapy plastic, sugar, corn, BE esters & banana, bit sweet, not very hoppy. Not really into it but what do I know?

No head to speak off, fully hazy yellowish-ochre beer. Malt, a serious touch of wholemeal bread, and a whiff of citrus for balance (good choice of hops). Sweet malts, and a hint of wheat acidity. Lots of yeast features. Yeast filled texture, end of bottle is solid yeast indeed. Very auspicious, not what one expects for a first try by miles! Txs to Jo!
