Bayern Oktoberfest is the classic Bavarian Dark Märzen: not too sweet yet malty with a nice hop flavor. This beer is brewed with Pilsener, Munich and German Dunkel malt. The hops for this special brew come straight from the Hallertau region in northern Bavaria and the finishing hops are Saaz from the Czech Republic. Bayern’s fastest selling seasonal specialty beer, this beer is not just called Oktoberfest, it is Oktoberfest beer. It is brewed according to the standards of the Brewers’ Guild of Munich, which was established in 1815 when they brewed this beer for the first time to celebrate the royal wedding of King Ludwig I and Princess Maria Theresia.

12 oz bottle. Aroma is malty with notes of caramel, chocolate, wet hayfields, toast, dark fruit. Looks like a brown ale or even a porter with how dark it is. Pours weirdly and extremely dark brown with a one finger beige head with good retention. Taste is malty sweet with virtually no bitterness; ends with a light tartness. Pretty good.

12 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark amber brown with a small white head. Aroma brings out toasted malt and some herbal notes. Flavour is pretty herbal, with toasted nuts, herbal notes, and biscuity notes. Pretty well-balanced - very lagery, full of corn and bready notes. Decent.

Looks like a dunkel, tastes like a marzen. See through dark brown with initial foamy beige head. Sweet malt aroma with a hint of roast grains. More sweet malt taste, syrupy consistency, sweet finish. Lovely!

dark brown color. A touch sour. Ok, but not great, shows OK malt character, but very undistinguished.

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a thin tan head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, nuts, earth and a good dose of light yeastie and bready notes. Medium-bodied; Assertive earthy and nutty flavours with a good balance of light hops and a lot of sugars. Aftertaste shows some earthy malts, a bit of peat and caramel with some toffee and a hint of yeast. Overall, a good marzen with more of a kick from yeast and sugars than anything else. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Zupan’s in Portland, Oregon (Belmont Location) a few hours ago on 07-December-2013 for US$1.99 sampled in my hotel room a few hours later on 07-December-2013 here in Portland.

Bottle: Amber pour with a thin beige head. Not much to the aroma; a little sweet and malty. Florals show up a little bit in the taste, but caramel malt and an herbal note are the forefront. A little bready too. Overall refreshing and paried well with the general’s chicken.
