22 oz bottle. Mystery Advent beer #5 from Tavour. Aroma is bread crust, cantaloupe, vanilla. Pours hazy amber with a thick long-standing beige head. Taste is candy sweet, finishing a bit dry. Flavors of bread, cola, caramel. Not bad.

Clear red with a small tan head. Aroma is sweet with loads of fruit, especially cherry up front. The flavor is candy sweet fruit, like a Ring-Pop. The booze is hot in the middle and the sweet fruit mellows it out again on the finish. The spice slowly ramps up during the glass. Pretty good brew but a little too sweet.

On Tap at the Silverdale BP Clear deep redish brown,. Nice sweet malty aromas. A little spice and cinnamon. Rich malty toasted flavors. Smooth and rich. Not so big for a barley wine, but full bodied and soft. Nicely ballanced and getting even better as it warms up.

Bottle from The Wine Sellers, Port Townsend
Hazy dark amber color with almost no head. Caramel aroma and flavor, candi sugar, soapy, rather sweet, with some fruity esters; correctly bitter but with too much alcohol presence; overall it’s just a sweetish beer with not much character, very American; not bad, but nothing special. Not an Old Ale.

Rich copper, ruby, rose and violet coloured body with beautiful tints and a thin, oily tan head on top - this looks like an old. Aroma of basement, must, caramel, toffee, rye, specialty grains, metal and a bit of deep honey and floral notes. Medium-bodied; Assertive musty and malty flavours with a good dose of alcohol, metal, caramel, toffee, earth and dry oaky notes are noticeable throughout the entire taste. Aftertaste shows a complexity that rivals others of the best from this style - a good musty flavour with some nuts, earth, oak, vanilla, pit fruit and caramel sweetness that shows immediately that this isn’t a barley wine or similar - this is definitely an old ale. Overall, a very nice beer for the style and showing amazing complexity and depth, but the initial flavours, smell and look especially make this perhaps one of the best olds i’ve ever had! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Bottleworks in Seattle, Washington on 10-February-2013 for US$6.79 sampled at home in [the real] Washington on the other end of the country on 09-March-2014. Best By Date? On Bottle: 04-23-2013 / Purchased in Feb-2013 / Sampled ~13 months later in March 2014

Bomber from riversideAK. Thanks a ton Alex! Nose is black cherry, prunes, toffee, hints of bubblegum, and dark bread. Sweet and malty. Clear rusty cherry with a small beige head. Flavor is lightly sweet, caramelized brown sugar, a butterscotch note, and a bit of background bitterness.

Courtesy of riversideAK, thanks Alex. Pours slightly hazy deep copper with thin tan head. The aroma has rich sticky malts, prunes and a bit of toffee and caramel candy. Smells of pure yum. The taste is rich for sure with sludgy sweet sticky malts mixing with prunes and dried peach wedges and a bit of dark grape jelly too. Around the edges of the malts and dark fruity esters are mostly echoes of pine hop resiny bitterness. The hops are there but well off in the background. This is a very nice barleywine. Wow!
