An incredibly drinkable ale, light in body but full of flavor. Oaky notes blend with the complex balance of malt and hops. This is a beer you can enjoy for the long haul.

Sample at the brewpub. Pours a slightly hazy dark amber color with a medium thin off-white head that dissipates quickly. Spotty lacing. Mild hops and malt aroma. Medium, smooth body with flavors of woody hops, malt and grain. The finish is malty with a grain aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Deep amber with an off-white head. Sweet fruits, toasty malts, berries, and a bit of molasses in the aroma. Lightly toasted biscuit malt, some sweet malt, fruits, berries, and a light brown sugar. Full, smooth body. A really nice brew.

Tap at Blind Tiger, NYC. Pours copper with a strong, white head. Holds a light malt aroma with floral hops. Lighly sweet, bready with some reserved bitterness. Light to medium in body with average carbonation. Finishes semi-dry, sweet with faint hops. I’d say this is an OK beer, and I do really enjoy milds.

Moderate carbonation when cold. The oak is clear and unmistakable, but it works well because there is no bourbon in it. Lots of malt and some grain character, but no hops and that is fine for a mild. A session beer for sure, I do like it.

12 oz. bottle, $10/6-pack at Binny’s. The oak foudre aging the Bros put this and the Resistance through seems to make wonderfully bright, clear beers (yeah, that’s what the beechwood in Bud is for, too). But this pours a wonderful amber beer color under a big fluffy head. Smell first brought in English and other bittering hops, and then a mild, toasty malt. Taste is a little light in malts, expected for an abv like this. Nice match of bitter and sweet, with a mouthfeel and aftertaste not too far from warm memories of first beers with Dad. Yeah, schmaltzy. But this is a very comforting, easy beer.
