Draught @ Bar Oorlam, Hamburg. Pours hazy dark ruby brown with airy pinkish head. Delightful and seductive aroma of fruit, malt, roast and Barley Wine yeast. Bitter flavour of alcohol and hops, with sourish notes of berries and sweetish hints of yeast and malt. Bitter, hoppy and boozy aftertaste. Well, not bad as such but somewhat out of balance. The boozy notes needn’t be so heavy, Ma.

Bottle picked up from BeyondBeer Webshop, Hamburg and consumed at home after a 90km cycle ride to Abensberg and back, Saturday 15th August 2020 listening to Porridge Radio - Every Bad. We just had Greek Meatballs in a Tomato Sauce with Feta, marvellous! . Pours chocolate brown with a slim off white head, in fact it really does look like a glass of melted chocolate. Drinks very easily for the abv, each sip shows a smooth beer with a nice fruity (almost raspberry like) tang, some sweetness. The barrel ageing is noticeable but works with the beer rather than dominating. Very pleasant.

25th July 2020
Clear but very deep amber brown beer, short lived pale tan head. Smooth and semi dry palate, decent fine carbonation. Smooth malts, a trace of creamy sweetness and a touch of dark toffee. The Port barrelling is evident from a slightly tangy but pleasing ripe red berry vibe. A little alcohol spice on an otherwise smooth finish. Quite simplistic, but nice enough.

Auburn with a creamy, off white head. Aroma of red currant jam, oak. Taste has a mild berry tartness over a grainy, bitter undertone. Body is to the thin side of medium, notably thinner than the 5% IPL I just finished, which feels odd for a beer of this style and potency. Overall, too simple. Still very drinkable though.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 33B/17D). Bottle 33 cl - Batch unknown (BBF 31.12.2023). AROMA: medium Port barrel, wood and slightly vinous. APPEARANCE: very dark amber color and clear. medium-low beige head with low retention. slight leg formation. TASTE: similar to the aroma with medium Port flavor, slight wood. medium bitterness with a dry finish. distracting and unwelcome roasted barley presence. PALATE: medium body with slight alcoholic warmth. low carbonation. OVERALL: although it has a good and clean Port character, the base beer is a bit flat and absent with an unwelcome roasted barley finish.

Creamy light brown head left a spotty cover on a very dark brown still body. Christmas cake, malt & demerara aroma. Medium bodied, smooth on the palate with a thinner clean back. Woody, red wine, jam, raspberry & vinous tastes with a bitter tangy finish.

22-02-20 // taster from bottle at a guided tasting at Kuehn Kunz Rosen. Quite simple amd soft. Easy to enjoy. Could be a bit more intense for me. Not much strong Barleywine character. Barrel character of port is present but not very strong. Solid.

A good beer overall, a bit average for the style. Has a foggy taste overall. But underneath that it hit all the good spots. Bar oorlam hamburg

Draught at Alles Elbe. Weak vinous aroma. Almost black colour. Small stable light brown head. The flavour is sweet and slightly vinous with a mild vanilla note. Nicely roasted finish. Well-balanced.
