This has a dull colour, and pours flat. The aroma is bright, though, good brandyish accent, nice rich fruitiness, a touch of rum. Now on the palate, it's got a bit of bitterness, brandy and whisky kicking in there. Soft malts, the mix of treatments isn't bad but it comes across harsh alongside the bitterness.

2015 vintage. 750mL bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a tiny head. Aroma has plenty rum barrels, brandy-like oxidation, dark dried fruits, and toffee. Flavour is likewise somewhat oxidized, with dark dried fruits, brandy barrels, light rum, and some toffee. Lots of butterscotch, brandy and rummy oxidation on the finish. Good stuff.

2015 bottle drunk 12/9/17.
Dark amber-mahogany body shows a light tan head of moderate retention and good clarity.
Classic American barleywine nose shows rich, plentiful caramel malt, honey, vanilla and bread with light alcohol vapors but nothing aggressive/sharp. No piney hops or any sign of hops at all. If this is rum barrel-aged, it's extremely light and but for the even, mild tones that must be wood/oak-induced, you'd hardly be able to tell it was barrel aged. Fruity finish.
Sweet, rich, but well-attenuated for the style with, again, no aggressive/sharp alcohol, nor any much sign of the barrel. Light wood tannin being about the extent of that. Caramel, raisin, toffee, vanilla and honey for days with light-to-moderate acidity and lightly drying alcohol hints towards the end. Big fruity yeast bouquet, as well. Very by-the-books barleywine. Very competently done. Nothing stands out at all. Fairly soft, malty texture, low, lightly engaging carbonation.

Bottle: Poured a bright light copper color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention and limited lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt with light dry cereal notes. Taste is also a mix of dry caramel malt notes with some dry cereal notes with light warming alcohol notes. Body is about average with good carbonation and warming alcohol notes are also perceptible. English style barleywine but not totally sure I dig the malt used in this beer.
