Environnement olfactif légèrement caramélisé et en manque de puissance.
Notes de terre et d’alcool en sourdine.
Couvert d’une mousse de taille moyenne, persistante et très crémeuse, le liquide est cuivré aux reflets orangés et parfaitement limpide.
Entrée de bouche chaleureuse présentant des accents terreux et feuillus qui apparaissent rapidement et qui provoquent une amertume âpre et soutenue en finale.
Une certaine oxydation prend le dessus et affaiblit le caractère fruité et sucré du produit. À température plus élevée, on peut y déceler des notes de vanille et de caramel mais on est loin du caractère malté et céréalier du style.
Absence de notes céréalières et d’esters.
L’accent est mis sur l’âpreté des houblons avec une base sucrée qui ne met aucune saveur de l’avant.

Bottle: Poured a clear amber color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry caramelized malt notes with hints of residual sugars is quite nice, Taste is also dominated by dry caramelized malt notes with light dry toffee and low amount of residual sugars. Body is about average for style with good carbonation with some warming alcohol notes. Very enjoyable for style that is not that common.

A golden amber Barley Wine with a thin off white head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with light grassy floral hops, light vinous character, light licorice. In mouth, a sweet fruity malt with light tropical fruits, papaya, floral hops, grapefruit, loads of alcohol and burned notes. On tap at brewery.

2013 bottle from MartinT, drunk 3/14/14
Ruddy deep amber body is clear (filtered) with a buttercream colored head that recedes to a ring rather quickly.
Not the most complex nose, but what’s there is delightful. Pure wheat with some acidity and light vanilla bean-like notes. Good strength of aroma and even with the filtration, it’s still quite clean and dosent belie its 9% abv. Low fruitiness, some toffee and pale sugar-like sweetness, but mostly just pleasant wheat "tartness" and soft vanilla.
Amber maltiness is full of vanilla and toffee, and though, like Martin says, it’s not a sugar bomb, it’s still rather low on dry or bitter balancing notes, and the artificial carbonation dissipates rather quickly leaving behind the rather strong, thick beer. Wheat nuttiness/creaminess is really the only balancing aspect, perhaps a touch of hop bitterness or phenolic spiciness but it gets pretty difficult to drink after about half the bottle. Really well-brewed though, clean and well-attenuated for its size.

Bouteille 500ml. Couleur orangée foncée translucide, mousse beige riche ayant une superbe tenue et laissant une belle dentelle. Arôme fruité, pomme jaune?, pointe de vanille, céréales, alcool léger. Goût de houblon résineux, caramel, alcool, fruité, amertume surprenante en fin de bouche. Carbonatation moyenne-faible, corps moyen.
