Dark Age coffee imperial stout emerges from the whiskey barrel, its dark malt complexity and smooth sweetness softened by its evolution in the oak with black balsam coffee from Mountain Air roasting, a fitting testament to the marriage of method and mystery.

(Bottle) Black colour with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted, vinous nose with notes of fresh coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, oak wood, treacle and liquorice. Malty, roasted, vinous taste with coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice, bourbon, vanilla, oak wood, caramel, treacle and a balanced coffee bitterness in a warming finish. Full body, quite sweet. On the sweet and boozy side, but really rich and tasty with a fresh coffee character. Very nice.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a very thin, single centimetre tall, at best, brown head that fades quickly and doesn't leave anything up top, even after a few seconds! Aroma of alcohol, roasted malt, deep coffee, a bunch of dark chocolate, some licorice, anise, fennel and a dash of molasses here, but the warmth from the alcohol and pungency of the coffee seems strongest in the nose with a hint of bourbon at the end, but the other scents are too deep and overpower the oak. Medium to Full-bodied; Rich chocolatey and coffee like flavours dominate with some grinds noticeable and a richness from lactose or extra oats here that push the alcohol and pungency up front wiht some sweetness from molasses and pitted fruits that ends in a complex, slightly earthy, but deep and fairly well-balanced note. Aftertaste shows some deeper malt notes from the oatmeal and roasted grain, but the sweetness, again, comes out and provides an even stronger finish, seemingly from molasses, pitted fruits, prunes, raisins and figs. Overall, a very nice beer that is blended nicely and has a good balance, with some deep, noticeable alcohol, as should be here for a 11,8 per center, but the malts couple well with the richness and provide a good pungency while being easy-enough drinking to get down the whole bottle, IN summertime! I sampled this 37,5 cL bottle, purchased from Lueken's Liqours in Dunedin, Florida on 14-April-2019 for US$8,99, bottled on 20-September-2018 and sampled just a bit earlier than 4 years after that date, at my house here in Washington on 15-July-2022.
