We went to great lengths to bring you this killer autumn treat. Pumpkins were handpicked by our brew team from the depths of the path. A cornucopia of spices were added to them before roasting and then the sweet flesh—along with creamy milk sugar—went into this chocolate-hued porter. It’s like homemade pumpkin pie with whipped cream. But better, because it’s beer.

Can from the brewery. Dark brown, light copper hues get through, with a small beige head. Spicy nose, no roast, nothing really resembling a porter, big notes of vanilla and nutmeg and other pie spices, actually has a strong eggnog aroma. Solid mouth feel, soft carb. Finish is lightly bitter, strong pie spice finish, more vanilla, with a subtle fruitiness, and light sweetness. Not bad, but the base porter has completely disappeared.

473ml can. Pours an opaque dark brown, almost black with a small, foamy, short lived, beige head that laces. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, pumpkin, cinnamon and nutmeg. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, lactose, pumpkin and clove in a dry, mild bitter finish. Light body with a thin, watery texture and average carbonation. Meh, too sweet, too thin and lacks any roasted malt.

Tasting at Matt’s, can
Brown color. Smells like an ice cream parlor, everything mixed (cinnamon, banana, bubblegum), very artificial. Caramel Ben & Jerry icecream, raisins, very artificial.
Vile.

Nice golden-brown colour, no head. Aroms of vanilla syrup, cinnamon syrup, maybe chocolate syrup. Good lord that’s bad. On the palate, has a lot of cloves so you actually feel it...oh...whacky. Super sweet. What a nonsenical, poor beer.

473mL can, pours a dark chestnut brown with a small beige head. Aroma is all sorts of artificial, with loads of nutmeg and who knows what else. Flavour is nasty, with banana ice cream, butterscotch and nutmeg. Seriously, how can you put something out like this? Nasty.

This pumpkin porter poured a deep black colour with a beautiful creamy, tan coloured head. Scents include bubblegum, run, allspice and pumpkin. First swig was quite creamy but a little thin. Flavours were aplenty with tastes of allspice, bubblegum and root beer. Finish was slightly burnt with a light bitterness to the palate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A nice surprise from Lilihel, growler from the brewpub under "Spiced Pumkpin Porter". Pours a clean copper colour with a beige head, average retention, kind of creamy with some decent lacing. Aromas of caramel and bananas with some yeast and the pumpkin and spice in the background. Smooth and silky mouthfeel. Not as spicy, but the pumpkin comes out in the taste. A good real pumpkin ale.

A reddish amber ale with a thin light mocha head (not very porter like). In aroma, sweet caramel malt with cloying pumpkin spices. In mouth, a smooth nutty malt with nutmeg and vanilla...this is not a porter. On tap at Big Rig, Oct. 22 2012.
