The sherry barrel aged version in this Tempus wheat Bock series by Beavertown, tasted side by side with Phobos - named after the other Mars moon and aged on madera barrels. This one looks about the same: thick, frothy, egg-white, lacing, stable head, hazy ruddy bronze robe. Aroma of altogether different, dried plums, old bread, cloves, caramel, sweet sherry, wet wood, hay, dried apple peel, figs, walnut bread, glue - less banana and more wood here than in Phobos. Sweet onset, dried banana, pear and candied fig, sourish wheatiness, softish carbo, supple and fluffy mouthfeel as can be expected from the style, walnut-like aspect, noble, with spicy phenols towards the end and yeasty bready notes; lingering dried banana notes drenched in a subtle sherry flavour, some glue-ish solvents and woody tannins. Very rich and pleasant beer, not at all your typical Doppelweizenbock like Phobos; a bit more noble, vinous and restrained in character, with the same amount of complexity.

330ml bottle. Cloudy, chestnut colour with ruby glimmer and average to huge, thick, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, off-white to beige head. Sweet-ish malty aroma, hints of banana, baked banana, sherry, hints of raisin, prune, a nuttily touch. some treacle. Taste is dry, minimally oaky, fruity, sweet-ish fruity, notes of prune, raisin, cherry and sherry; minimally overcarbonated..

Tap at beerlovers bar. Pours dark reddish brown. Small white head. Smell is dry, bit astrigen / tart. Reminding of a fob. Taste is aromaticband full malty. Bit dry. Much wood' very comparable to an american style flemish red. Weird how styles that are so different can taste so similar. Some mild vanilla at the end, presumably by the barrel.

Bottle thanks to Stuu666. Pours dark brown with a lively beige head, growing up out of the glass. Aromas of sherry, leather, toffee, wood, red fruit. Taste is vinious, woody, more stewed fruit, maybe plums. Carbonation a little high. Interesting.

Aus der Flasche am 2017-02 getrunken. Mit Weizenbock tue ich mich echt schwer, weil die oft den Alkohol schlecht einbinden und dann als Schädelspälter daher kommen. Ok dieses ist moderat, aber kommt für mich nicht stimmig rüber. Der Oloroso Einfluß ist deutlich aber drängtlich nicht auf wie ich neulich beim Naparbier Barley Wine noch hatte. Was bleibt ist eine Bierstil mit dem ich mich immer noch schwer tue. Ich weiß nicht ob ich es wirklich mag?

Dark brown colored, strong off white frothy head, nice lacing and long lasting. Aroma is of some malt and wheat, bit caramel, mostly spicy phenolic, oak woody, bit vinous, some alcohol notes. Taste is medium to very sweet malt and wheat, some caramel, bit red fruity but almost no banana, moderate spicy phenolic, yeast, bit bready, bit vinous, some oaky wood, light+ bitterness, medium-light tart notes in the finish which I’m not too keen on, some alcohol with a nice warming feeling. Medium+ bodied, average carbonation, oily to sticky. There’s a lot going on but not sure the mix is the best. (bottle, from Beavertown brewery)

Bottled. A hazy brown beer with a huge tan head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and bread. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and bread, leading to a bitter finish.
