From tap at The Scrapyard, Alkmaar. Bit vinous aroma with mostly cognac, roasted malt, wood, some liquorice, dark chocolate. Woody and vinous, typical Calavera take on the style. Medium sweet, not picking up the whisky barrel. Body is medium. Nice.

Opaque dark brown beer, small tan head that dissipates very quickly. Quite a light palate, mildly dry and with decent fine minerally carbonation. The dark malts don't have the luxuriant feel you might expect but they deliver a good dark chocolate vibe which marries well with the fruity whiskey and mellow but fairly rich cognac. Light finish brings modest alcohol spice. Yeah, overall this is very nice brew. The double barrelling works well and imparts a complex array of boozy ripe fruits and that keeps me sipping happily away.

Best before 05/2024, Batch 18/233, 375ml bought at La Cave à Bières d'Etre Gourmet online shop; Imperial Porter aged in whisky and cognac barrels
APPEARANCE: deep, dark brown color in the glass, brown hues under the light; small beige head with big fluffy bubbles on the side, not much of lacing (big bubbles)
AROMA: smooth barrel character with whisky notes in the foreground, no obvious cognac aroma, clear but soft notes of red wine tartness, grapes, sharp raisins; moderate imperial porter backbone - light sweetness of toasted sugars, caramel, toast, sweet bread soaked in red wine, chocolate with raisins, cocoa powder, figs, very gentle roasted malts - hints of burnt grains, char; umami hints (subtle sweet onions and meat gravy), subtle vanilla, very mellow alcohol notes (not hot or medicinal)
TASTE: soft and slightly creamy carbonation, medium body with mild silky mouthfeel kind of appropriate for the style (this is not a RIS too be clear); loads of dried fruits (figs, raisins) at the beginning paired with toasted sugars & caramel cut by cocoa powder, chocolate bitterness and barrel dryness in the finish; soft sweet and spicy whisky notes adds complexity but no cognac presence for me, low tannic bitterness, wood, minerals, very soft vinous notes associating at robust red wine; appropriate roasted character for Imperial Porter; no booziness at all for 10.8% abv
OVERALL: very pleasant and enjoyable barrel aged Imperial Porter, all characteristics of porter are present with smooth whisky note but I do miss cognac notes; dangerously drinkable for abv

Black/brown with tan head leaving a fine lacing, toasted malts, chocolate, whiskey, sweet, super smooth, the white wine/grapes are surely noticeable, nice stuff, 3.8
