Specially brewed for the 2004 AOB Craft Brewers Conference held in San Diego, CA. This ale is the result of a collaborative effort between three San Diego County brewers and breweries. Peter Zien of AleSmith Brewing, Tomme Arthur of Pizza Port Solana Beach /Port Brewing, and Lee Chase of Stone Brewing all gathered together and brewed this celebratory ale up at the Stone Brewing Co.
This Belgian-style strong golden ale was brewed with multiple yeast strains, a pretty substantial amount of Czech Saaz hops, and a touch of lemon grass.

Slightly hazy light orange body, thin off-white head. Banana/clove yeast aroma with other fruits, including oranges. Yeasty flavor with more bananas and cloves, pepper, light fruit (pear?), bread, and crackers. Much like a light Tripel. Medium-bodied, moderately complex, and quite yeasty. A bit Tripel, a bit Hefeweizen, a bit good. Acquired in a trade from Tom (CaptainCougar).

Hazy blonde colour with a thin white head that doesn’t last long at all. Aroma of coriander seed & curacao-some meat and mushrooms too-pretty gross. Medium-bodied; Coriander seed freshness in the taste is the most noticeable. This beer is not a tripel at all, more so of a white, but not a well-crafted beer. Aftertaste is not good, i’d rather have any other beer at this point in time, even a brown or an amber. This was truly dissapointing and probably the worst beer of the night, altogether. Thanks to Jeffin for bringing this 65 cL bottle-a treat for everyone! I sampled this 65 cL bottle at the November RB party at Founder’s in Alexandria, Virginia on 20-November-2004.

Hay yellow ale with no head. Yeasty, fruity and tropical aroma. Malt and spices, some biscuity notes, and alcohic warmth. Very short in mouth, like Hello and Goodbye. Ok but not a classic stone.

2004 bottle @ the Gathering compliments of Jeffin7. Pours a light yellow with some very light orange tints. Lightly hazy with a small white head. Aroma of light peach and apricot, plenty of peppery yeast. Flavor tastes of tons of yeast, tons more pepper and something quite bitter coming through, spices or hops, not sure. Some residual sweetness on the end, with even a hint of lightly sour fruity yeast to mix in with the big pepper. Pretty straightforward on the flavor. Palate is tingly, with plenty of zesty carbonation, light amount of acidity, little bit of wateriness after it has warmed, medium to medium-full body.

Bottled, thanks Sven! Hazy golden, small rocky head. Yeasty nose with some banana. Sweet, peppery and cidery. Unfortunately there is also a trace of lemon grass (I hate that stuff). Grassy finish with some crystalized sugar.

A hazy orange beer with a nice though disappearing white head. The aroma is sweet and very flowery. The flavor is soft and very flowery and with loads of yeast notes. A nice beer, but I’d expected more with three master brewmasters behind it.

Thanks to Eyedrinkale for bringing this to Brewtopia ’04! Clear light amber color with minimal head. The aroma is of light malt carrying a bit of citrusy sweetness with it. The flavor is sweet and spicy as well. The only bitterness comes as the finish fades. Good, but not as remarkable as some of the other Stone creations.

This beer sure gets around...hazy golden ale. Slightly toasty, almost champagne-like aroma. Peachy flavour, a little yeasty, with plum, apple and pear as well. Ok, so it’s estery. Slight grassy hop note. Slightly yeasty, moderately sweet finish.
