Brown 33cl dumpy bottle, best before 23 Apr 2012, been in my stash for some time: opened and reviewed Sunday 22 May 2011. Poured into a Hoegaarden Grand Cru glass: the sediment seemed to stay in the bottle, so my glass was full of a dark reddy brown beer which had a very slight haziness to it. On top a well formed and deep off-white head of tight bubbles. Malty molasses fill the nose, treacle and toffee notes complete the smells I found. Roasted/toasted malty bread taste, with an alcohol undertone. Sweet and tangy, but lacking something when comparing with the better beers within this style. I thought the beer a bit lively and over carbonated, the alcohol was too prominent also, the body not possessing enough strength or complexity to control it. My wife liked this beer more than I did, the malty sweetness winning her over, compared to my more measured overview which pushed it towards more average scores for the style.

(Bottle, 0.33 l, at Hipeä Hauki, 20120120) The beer poure ruby red and clear. Its head was small, sparse and white. Aroma had alcohol, caramell and malts. Palate was medium bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, caramell, sweetness, yeast and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty, sweet and bitter. Too boozy but decent malt profile.

Bottle, at De Bierkamer. It pours a hazy, brown body under a big, off-white to beige head. The aroma is sugary, with caramel, spices and hints of alcohol and cellar. There’s a nice bitterness in the flavor, it blends sweetness and spices quite nice, and there’s also a touch of yeast. Full-bodied and warming. Spiced and warming finish. Although quite sweet, this is a pretty nice beer I could drink more of. 110430

330 ml bottle @ De Bierkamer. Dark brown body with a small beige head. Relatively light aroma of sweet malt, caramel and fruit. Flavor is sweet, but feels surprisingly light. Caramel malt, candy, spices, fruity and hint of warming alcohol. Noting really special but quite nice anyway.

330ml bottle from the take away service at De Bierkamer. Dense, fawn coloured head. Hazy, brown body. Aroma of sweet malts with modest notes of tart fruits. Earthy malts, sweet candies and notes of yeast in flavour. Gets too sweet (shared with Finn, hotel room in Aalst 30.04.2011).
