The Potteloereke is a strong brown beer of 8 vol.% Alc. Originally brewed at the request of the pottery ’t Hoveke in Meigem. This potter beer comes into its own right when it is served in the special artisanal Potteloereke beer mug. Potteloereke is brewed with a mixture of special pale and dark malts and brown candy sugar. Potteloereke has a fruity aroma, a strong head and a slightly sweet aftertaste.

Bottle. Caramel colored beer with a huge tan head. Caramel and toffee aroma. Toffee and caramel flavor with yeast, spice, and light earthiness. Medium-plus bodied. Toffee and spice lingers with caramel. A bit drier than I usually like, but good.

11.2 oz bottle. Ridiculously thick head, very nice appearance. Thick beer, with a touch of amber. Rugged rich brown ale, alcohol tinged medium-dark malt thickness. Faint sourness in the sweetness, raisiny. Quite heavy on the palate.

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, mahogany colour with a big and beige, dense and steady foamy head. Sweet and toasty malty aroma with notes of cacao, caramel, a mild pruney fruitiness, vanilla and soft spicy notes. Sweet and roasty bitter flavour, full bodied with a smooth carbonation and an almost Porter-like viscosity. Robust toasty malty base with delicately underlying fruity notes, caramel, chocolate/cacao, hints of leather and spicy accents; toasty and slightly sourish berry- and plum-fruity finish. Pleasant. 09.III.10

Very dark brown with massive tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel and licorice. Sweetish flavor, with notes of raisins and cinnamon. Interesting, but could be more complex and better balanced.

Pours a fizzy, hazy brownish red - aroma of clover honey, a lot of yeasty character, toasted malts, some nutty qualities - full carbonation in the mouth - the flavor lacks character - it’s pretty much just honey and light earthy bitterness - some toasted character and quite a bit of yeastiness - a bit of spiciness and warmth on the back end - kind of chalky in the finish - some caramelized sugars way on the end of the finish - boring, but nice enough.

Sampled at Zythos 2009. Malty decent strong dark Belgian ale. OK. Last beer of the session for me. Man behind the bar was very kind and gave this to me for free

Draught at Zythos Beer Festival, March 7th and 8th 09 Pours Pours amber with a light beige head, some icing sugar and brown sugar combine on the nose. The taste is simple but unsuprisingly given the aroma maybe a touch on the sweet side. Maltiness carries and there are molasses and toffee with some fruit, its fine. A6 A4 F6 P3 OV13 3.2
