Bottle from LDW, Eke. Hazy brown colour, beige foam. Nose is malty with fruity notes of dried fruit (plums, raisins), brown sugar. Not too sweet. Enjoyable beer.

22/XI/16 - 33cl bottle @ HoReCa Expo (Gent) - BB: 9/VIII/18 (2016-1362) Thanks to kraddel and Erwin for sharing today's beers!

Clear dark brown beer, creamy beige head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of overripe banana, caramel, dried fruits, raisins, bit yeasty. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: some dried fruits, lots of dark chocolate, some banana, caramel, little spicy. Aftertaste: pretty roasted, especially for a Belgian style dark ale, bitter, hoppy touch, spiced up, lots of chocolate, some mocha. Decent!

Toye’s second, with moussy, stable, lightly lacing, pale greyish white head and deep burgundy robe with ruby red hue, clear. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar, candied fig, dried banana, toffee, honey, cinnamon, dry earth, tea, Belgian chocolates, white pepper, apple sauce, cloves, yellow raisin, ginger powder, liquorish candy, toasted bread, some very vague FFF. Sweet onset, lots of residual brown candi sugar, baked banana, fig, raisin, some apricot, blackcurrant sourish accent, fizzy carbonation, smooth and ’fluffy’ mouthfeel; deeply caramelly in the middle, honeyish and sweet with a nutty touch, developing into a soft toasted bitterishness paired with spicy, leafy hop bitterness, a tad earthy but generally ’clean’, some warming alcohol in the end; pleasantly bittersweet flavors linger after swallowing. A very stereotypical Belgian dubbel, sweet with a bitter twist, nothing spectacular and as old school as it gets but technically correct, balanced and enjoyable without any real off-flavors.

Sampled bottled @ Modeste 2016. Red amber brown, tanned head; nose is weird sweet cough syrup, medicinal berries, overly sweet syrupy with typical small brewery Belgian profile. Taste too cloying taste, plastic, orange, overly sweet cough syrup, unpleasant cloying, low gravy. Cloying cough syrup body. Didn’t like all those unpleasant sweet medicinal cough syrup notes.
