Cranachan is a traditional Scottish dessert made from raspberries, honey, toasted oats and cream. We love it. So we made an oatmeal pale ale and smashed it with
enough local berries to feed a clan of hungry Highlanders.

Minimal beige head left a cover on a still, reddish brown body. Big aroma of raspberry & fruit juice. Medium bodied. Average carbonation. Slight tingle on the back. Clean on the palate. A bit thin on the back. Malty to the fore followed immediately by a massive hit of raspberries, redcurrant & cranberry. It tastes red!! Lacking on the aft.

330ml bottle. Reddy amber brown colour with a thin white head. Aroma is exactly as described: raspberries and toasted oats, cream, honey. Taste: sweet tart raspberries, toasty biscuity oaty notes which take over from the sweetness (a bit too much so in my opinion), little bitterness. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel, moderate carbonation. Wanted to like this more than I did as it sounds delicious, but it just didn’t quite work for me.

Thank you! Sampled draft @ Delirium Hoppy Loft. Orange clear darker. Nose is sweet orange peel, lemonade, toffee, red berry jam. Taste is odd sweet, massive sweet orange, honey, sugar, lemon, jam, toffee. Oily thick orange, like a sweet lemonade of sorts, odd beer.

Hazy pale red colour. Aroma is sweet and has plenty of raspberry. Fairly thick texture perhaps aided by the oats. It’s a little bit too sweet.

Bottle from M&S in Rickmansworth, Herts. A hazy rose red coloured pour with a thin pink head on top. Raspberry aroma. Tastes tart, raspberries all the way. slightly dry and bitter. Not really my kind of thing but quite well made.

Appearance- ruby, quite vivid, light brown tinge, pretty much no head. Aroma- lots of raspberry, strawberry, yogurt, biscuity malt hints, tart fruit, berries. Taste- raspberry dominates, hints of blackcurrant and other berry fruit. Strawberry, sticky malt, sweet fruit. Quite interesting.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Tom L’s place. Thanks Max. Hazy reddish amber with an off-white head. Nice raspberries aroma, a bit milky. Sweetish-sourish and slightly bitterish flavor with graininess, raspberries, lactose hint. Medium-bodied.

Lively, clear amber beer with a bubbly white head. Sweet, tangy berry aroma. Taste is tart raspberry, but not sickly or overbearing. There’s a light biscuit-y-ness to the backtaste as well, slightly toasty. This could very easily have been a mess but it’s perfectly balanced really. Could actually do with committing to the fruit taste a little bit more but it’s really nice. Crisp, surprisingly dry, very drinkable.
