As the name states, the oatmeal pale ale uses all-UK ingredients. We're putting out various prototypes of this beer as we experiment with traditional and new English hops. Expect earthier hop aromas and flavours but none of the drabness, we're Weird Beard after all!

Bottle 33 cl. Pours yellow with a slight haze and a small, white head. Nose is fruity with slightly greasy hops. Medium body, fruity again with a rather massive bitterness. Clearly lacks the aromatic qualities of US hops. 030517

On cask at the Hanging Bat. Appearance - dirty amber with a nice fluffy head. Nose - grapefruit and oats. Taste - blood orange then oatcakes. Pithy finish. Palate - close to medium bodied with a crunchy texture and a long dry crunchy finish. Almost astringent. Overall - good up front then the oats take over and I’m not sure that’s better than nor having oat impact. Defend though.

Draft glass @ Billie’s Bier Kafétaria. Lightly hazy classical golden, big creamy white head. Nose is mellow yeast, flowers, artificial lemon, makes me think of De La Senne actually, clean fluffy almost BE yeast profile, low soap, mild esters. Taste has that same De La Senne Belgian Ale profile to me despite the name, funny, mellow BE yeast, plastic lemon in a good way, mildly floral, zest, esters, low weeds, mellow clean, good drinking. Body is rich, creamy clean yeast, bright malts. Feels like a tasty Belgian Ale to me despite intent & description. Seems like I liked it a lot more than others did.

Cask at CPK, Pimlico on 18th January 2017. Very hazy amber with shallow whitish foam and full lacing. A fine grapefruit aroma. Exquisite hoppiness in-mouth with grapefruit in abundance. A lasting finish of fine citrus. Zingy mouthfeel and a fair body to the ale. Superb!

Bottle, Target/ Phoenix/ Olicana version. Somewhat hazy straw gold with a white head that lasts. Aroma of (really nice) bitter oranges, light bread, some herbal notes. Reminds me a bit of De Ranke XX.7+ Light bodied, medium carbonation. Really quite thin with light bread and hay, loads of oranges. Fairly dry and moderately bitter at the end. A little chalky at the end. Good.
