Our favorite porter with just a touch of the tropics. This Coconut Victory at Sea takes our popular Imperial Porter to another place. We added sweet roasted coconut to our robust porter brewed with Caffe Calabria coffee and vanilla, the perfect complement to this beer’s subtle roasty intensity. A favorite at our annual Victory at Sea Day, but it’s worth enjoying anytime you need to be transported.

22 oz bottle poured into a tulip. Aromas of sweet coconut, coconut lotion, subtle chocolate. Tastes of bitter roast, dark chocolate, sweet coconut, . Medium-full body with a dry finish. The roasty bitterness doesn’t quite mesh with the coconut well for me. Maybe better on draft, at least the toasted coconut version. I’ll stick with Oskar Blues Death By Coconut.

Bottle. A- Coconut, almond joy. A- Black color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Coconut, nutty, chocolate, almond joy, slightly sweet. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, sweet finish. O- Wow, this joins many great coconut beers. Boulevard Imperial Stout X-Coconut, Oskar Blues Death by Coconut, etc. Like a liquid almond joy. Definitely different from the base beer, but still fantastic.

Not sure the coconut really does this one any favors. Pours a dark, cola-brown, with minimal head. Aroma of coffee and roasted grain. Flavor is dominated by a sweetish coconut that’s reminiscent of suntan oil. There’s some coffee, chocolate, licorice, etc., present, too, but it’s all overshadowed by this almost artificial coconut flavor. Tone it down a bit and maybe you’d have something.

On tap at The Hay Merchant. Pours a dark brown with small beige head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is strong coconut, roast, cocoa. Medium mouth, toasted coconut, dark chocolate, boozy, nice sweetness, very nice.

Poured up on tap at the Tempe WoB where it exhibits a deep dark brown sort of mahogany colored body that supports a mocha head of foam. The aroma offers up dark roasted coffee, some burnt malts and an inviting toasted coconut sensation. The taste is similar as I get dark roasted coffee blended with a seamless roasted coconut sensation, a bit of earthy chocolate and malty to molasses like sweetness smoothing this out. Of the four I tried today this was the best. Very nice.

Draught @ Milk and Hops. Inky black with normal sized foamy beige head, strong roasted malt aroma, medium carbonation, sweetish coconut flavored mocha taste, alcohol undertones, full body, medium sweet coconut finish. Very smooth and satisfying, liked this version better than the peppermint variance.
