light caramel pour, with little to no head. Aroma is odd, whiskley malt smokiness, very mch like the unibroue raftman. Some fruit like apples, and pears, i’mnot getting any banana like other ratings, i’m actually getting some brett funk in the aroma. This is quite odd. Flavour is smokey like whiskey, but very very subdued, but quite enjoyable. And the bretty funkyness finishes it off. Its like a mix of a smoked, a touch of belgian, with the fruity easters, and the touch of yeast, and a sour ale with the brett. Now i know there isnt any brett in here, so its odd, maybe cause it’s only a 5% beer, it is a little on the old side, i guess its turning sour, but its foor the good! if you can find some go get some!

Bottle consumed 24 months after its release: Poured a light golden color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramel malt is quite sublime with no traces of smoke. Taste is dominated by great caramel malt with hints of dry fruits; smoke has totally disappeared and been replaced by some complex malt. Body is quite full with great carbonation and no signs of alcohol. Not the beer I was expecting but I must admit that this has turned extremely well.

Bouteille 750ml.

Angenehm süßlich-rauchiger Geruch, holzig. Test vom 1.11.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 13,13,13,11,13,13 - 12,70

750mL bottle shared by Rastacouere on 9/30/07
No head/lacing, for the most part. A thin white layer of foam is coaxed initially, but dosent last. The liquid is a cloudy straw-golden, with sparse, large bubbles in the liquid.
Soft bubble gum is matched to vanilla and pleasant, muted sugars (honey, light cookie dough, bits of caramel) keep things very smooth. The rauch part is definitely subtle here, with more of a medicinal/smoky phenolic character on the finish, than an actual heavy, salty/meaty smokiness. That’s fine in my book, subtle is good too. Something of a spicy ending as well, with definite grassy/dusty hops (saaz?) and more of the smoke phenols giving a little zip. The cloudiness and obvious yeast and wheat in solution definitely mute the aroma, as expected, but there are no flaws, and what does come through is represented excellently.
Very smooth, chewy, comforting texture washes soft wheat and barley grains across the palate, depositing vanilla and honey sugars that are balanced by a surprisingly flavorful (though minimal) hoppiness. Spicy herbs and dry grass give way to light campfire smoke and almost a sweet mix of ester and phenol (smokiness meets vanilla meets cotton candy and bubblegum), with a touch of sticky-sweet malt. Not terribly cohesive, the huge amount of protein/yeast in solution and lower carbonation helping see to that, but all the individual flavors are interesting/enjoyable. Finishes wet and slick, with moderate wateriness. No alcohol or flaws noted. Maybe this needs to rest warm in the bottle and develop more carbonation. Would like to try it with more of the solute dropped out too.

A hazy dark amber weizen with a thick collapsing white head. A lightly smokey aroma, with fusel alcohol. In mouth, a sweetish malt with smoked bacon, light bananas, andlight sour points. A very classy beer. Bought and tasted Oct. 8, 2007.

Thanks to Glouglouburp. The beer pours with a beautifully thick head, that just has nowhere to go, sticky-ichy lacing. The color has almost no clarity with a dark, dark golden color, almost orange territory. Still some visible carbonation. Looks great!!!!!! Aroma is light clove, light orange, minimal smoke - almost mineral like actually and definitely a heavy wheat beer. Taste has barely any smoke but full of wheat flavors like the aroma but not overwhelming. Very hefty for a wheat beer, in body. Has a lowered carbonation and the body is softly on the cheeks. Finishes with what can be considered the most un-smokiest smoke and no bitterness. Basically, one would have to starve oneself for a week to get any smoke flavor but still a very nice beer. 750ml, Brooklyn/Schneider Hopfen-Weisse Weizen glass.
