A true seasonal beer, as refreshing as it should be! Taste it in the summer, sitting at a terrace table. Originally, season beer was a beer brewed before the summer and intended for summer-season farmhands. It had low alcohol content and a marked bitterness that made it really refreshing.

We wanted to offer a truly seasonal Season with production limited in time. As Laurent Agache’s parents had created a cottage-type aperitif based on fresh elder tree flowers, greatly appreciated for family festivities, we have tried to use that flower for producing our Season. The elder flower, combined with the Sterling hop, was wonderful right from the first tests: the bitterness of the hops underlined by the flower brought a new and really nice freshness. The following year, shortly after the flowering of the elder tree, our Saison Cazeau was launched on the market.

Pizzeria Paradiso, Georgetown tap ($10): Pours a slightly hazy pale golden/yellow with a white head. Aroma is pretty light with some floral and soapy notes. Flavor is really light, but there ain’t really that much uncut funk. Kind of soapy. I was not really a fan of this guy here.

750 ml bottle. Pours a light gold with a big head leaving nice lacing. Initial big skunk yeast aroma giving way to floral, fruit, honey, and white pepper. Nice delicate flavors of spicy light malts, banana, lemons, honey ,and ginger, all with a definite floral twist. Very light bitter floral finish.

Bottle. Pours a light, somewhat unclear yellow, with a finger thick head. Aroma is caramel, a fruity sweetness of apples and elderflowers, yeast, herbs and a nice rounded hoppiness. Body is creamy with a quite lively carbonation. Flavour is sweet of flowers and a fruity yeastiness, with a not too pleasing astringency in the finish.

Draft @ Brassigaume 2012. Brewed with elderflowers – rightly recommended to me due to my fondness of saison’s and more importantly Mamouche. Hazy golden with a creamy white head. Smell is flowery, elderflowers, white pepper, reasonable yeast and light sopa. Taste is flowers, elderflowers, yeast heavy, soft white berries, mellow herb and white pper finish. Bit yeast heavy body – lovely stuff thx for the recommendation Sebletitje.

Cask at GBBF 2012, London. Pours hazy, yellow-gold with a monstruous, white foam head. Nose of doughy yeast, lemon zest and white bread. Light to medium sweet flavor with doughy malts, odd smoe, some minerals and grains. Light bodied with average, smooth carbonation. Moderately sweet finish with toasty dough and faint, dry yeast. Not bad, kind of average.
