(Can) Hazy amber colour with fairly small, frothy, tan head. Malty, hoppy nose with notes of caramel, orange peel, apricots, papaya, tropical fruit and bread. Malty, fruity taste with orange peel, apricots, caramel, resin, bread, burnt sugar, treacle-toffee and a gentle resiny bitterness. Full body, sweet. Sweet, boozy and caramelly, but there's certainly some hops around. Hardly balanced, but quite nice.

Sehr schade!

On tap at Mikkeller, Mitte, Berlin, Thurs' 5th August 2021 after a walk from our hotel which is right by the station. Pours hazy gold with a white head, super sweet, thick mouthfeel, syrupy. A bit too sweet and if truth be known a little bit messy.

Triple IPA at (allegedly) 0 IBU: most educated beer aficionados are aware of the fact that IBU merely refers to alpha acids content and is not the same as 'hoppiness' in general or even perceived bitterness, but this seems like stretching it a bit too far... Still, the idea in itself fascinated me and I was wondering if Mikkeller can actually fool me into enjoying an IPA with zero IBU value. Off-white, mousy, medium thick, irregularly edged, lacing head on a misty pale orange-tinged peach blonde beer. Aroma of canned peach, freshly squeezed orange juice, Cape gooseberry jam, 'meloenjenever', mango purée, wodka, honey, hint of wet cloth. Sweetish onset, ripe melon, canned peach, orange, mango; fizzy carb, full and supple, soft body, caramelly maltiness, rounded, with a slight biscuity edge. Alcoholic heat becomes apparent long before its time, while very aromatic hoppiness fills the retronasal part: tropical mango, tangerine and guava, ripe peach, melon again - but indeed, actual bitterness remains suspiciously absent, so that this beer ends rather sweet, tropical and very boozy, with a lot of wodka-like alcohol tingling on the back of the tongue. Too much so for me: I hate it when actual alcohol becomes too obvious, but in this case there is no hop bitterness to go with it, making for a rather bare, unsatisfying ending that dramatically lacks structure. Interesting as the concept may be, I do not think this experiment is successful (my companion Jan could not even finish it); I miss the IBUs, quite literally. Feels like a sweet and very boozy tripel with tropical and citrusy hop aromas thrown in. Not my taste - I'd rather have that legendary 1000 IBU again please, thank you.

Buena.
