The second release in our Hopwright series draws its bright, tropical flavors from Sabro, a new hop varietal bred in part from wild grown hops in the American Southwest. Notes of coconut, lime, tangerine, and citrus will have you reaching for more of this smooth cerveza.

Very clear, but super rich copper and bronze coloured body with a thin, very fast-dying off-white head. Aroma of light tropical fruits, some cleanser, a good hit of floral notes, all ending with a moderate malt backbone and some dry herbal notes. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong grassy and floral notes dominate with some drying hop bitterness and a light touch of tropical fruits and very subtle sweetness that arises from those, but a very crisp, dry and floral bite from the hops, in a good way, without as much malt as I expected. Aftertaste shows some fruit notes of the citrus variety with a bit more grass and flowers than the fruits and sadly, not many tropical notes at all, perhaps some mangoes and oranges with a grapefruit twang at the very end. Overall,  a nice and crisp IPA without much tropical notes, but enough other hop bitterness components to make up for the lack of anything, with a smooth and understated malt backbone that supports a light dose of sugars and all the hops. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Liquor Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 21-December-2020 for US$2,39 sampled at my home in Manassas, Virginia on 11-August-2020.

Can. Unclear pale amber with a doming white head that lasts well. Summery aroma of oranges, lime and that distinctive Sabro coconut. Just medium bodied with a bit of a resinous feel, carbonation of the high side of moderate. A little sweet with light bread and sweet citrus, lots of coconut and then a fairly bitter resinous finish that buzzes away for a while. Good beer although I'm still finding Sabro a bit weird.

Can: Poured a slightly hazy yellow color ale with a large white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of citrusy undertones with some light tropical notes is quite pleasant. Taste is a nice mix of floral hops undertones with some light tropical notes, some residual sugar notes with some light bitterness in the aftertaste. Body is about average with good carbonation. Enjoyable but not as juicy as I was expecting.

32oz crowler pours with a clear deep gold body that has a narrow copper hued core and supports a nice light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up plums, strawberries, apricots and a little herbal to floral hoppiness. The taste delivers a blend of plum and floral hop nuanced raspberries, strawberries and papaya. Interesting blend of hops.

Damn fine IPA, full of lime and coconut and grapefruit and steamy tropic love, backed up by mild toasted bread and caramel, with a modest mineral bitterness on the finish and a lingering tropical fade. Perfect for reading Henry Miller in a hammock on a beach in Zihuatanejo. Or sitting in your basement playing your SNES Classic. Whatever.
