Sample thanks to Grumbo: Poured a hazy orange with white head. Aroma is hoppy, bitter to the nasal, some maltiness. Taste is interesting, floral hops, vanilla, malts, some booziness, sweetness in the finish.

30/5/2020. Nicely presented boxed bottle, bottle No. 28438 bought at Waitrose, Peterborough. Pours clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is lightly spiced and floral, malty, earthy, fruity, sweet caramel and a touch of pine. Medium sweetness and moderate bitterness. Medium body, slightly oily texture, average to soft carbonation. Better than average Marston's beer.

Bottle - Pours a hazy yellow gold colour with a small bubbly white head that settled. Aroma is candied fruits, pear and apples, some bready, estery notes. A moderately sweet taste, chewy, bready malts and candied fruit, again pear, some wood and bitter flavours in the finish.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up at Waitrose. Pours clear burnished gold with a foamy, mostly white head. Fairly tasty, moderately sweet, with some bready malts, mellow bitterness, nips of pine, semi-ripe citrus, restrained English yeast. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. More Sweet, bready malts is the finish, some berries, a scattering of leaves. Not bad.

20th Feb 2020, shared bottle number 13009 with my son. My original review still stands, it's OK but the hype is bigger than the beer. 31st Jan 2020: 8th International Beer Exchange in De Bierboom (Pre Brugge Bier Festival). Bottle poured sample (large). Slight haze to the golden body, weak white covering on top. Nose held some malty molasses and fruity notes, taste grainy, malty, semi-sweet and again with a fruity note or two. OK rather than exciting.

Slightly hazy golden beer, bubbly head. Biscuity smell with some zesty hop. Flavour is also zesty hop along with some tropical fruit, a little savoury, earthy taste from the barrel aging, a good malty base and a slightly airy finish. Nice to see Marston's trying this sort of thing as I mostly associate them with generic English bitters which are fine but unexciting. And in a world where strong IPAs tend to be big North American style ones that want to knock your socks off (which I do like in their own right) this feels more like a British beer that's been souped up rather than them just going with a load of New World hops and calling it a day.

[50cl bottle, number 28417, from Waitrose, Bracknell.] A bright straw coloured pour with a thin white head and leaving plenty of lacing on the glass; earthy aroma with some biscuity malts; quite prickly in the mouth, with sourish grains, a chewy body; and a gentle but firm bitterness with some woody spice towards the finish. Very good.
