Level 42 botteshare. Almost opaque dark brown beer, good tan head. Palate is soft and has mild fine carbonation. Soft sweet dark malts, rich and creamy. Tangy fruits and mild spice. Mellow sweet coffee. Fairly creamy finish. Rich and tasty but could be a lot hoppier.

Bottle shared at level 42 Canary wharf tasting. 11/07/2016. Huge thanks to Kenny for this one. A viscous dark brown coloured pour with a halo of tan head. Aroma is big hot alcohol, vanilla, woody choc, sweet jammy fruits, strawberry. Flavour is really sweet brown sugars, toffee, woody piney hop, strawberry jam. Palate is super sweet, moderate carbonation, sticky. Too sweet.

Sampled from tap at ’Uiltje Bar’. Pitch black with a beige head. Sweetish, moderately roasty-malty, quite fruity-resiny aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, tropical fruits and some pine. Very sweet, slightly roasty-malty and moderately fruity taste of milk chocolate, sweet coffee, tropical fruits, hazelnut, some vanilla and pine, followed by a medium long, slightly roasty-bitter, quite resiny finish. Full body, creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Really good, although very much on the sweet side.

Bottle thanks to Kenny. It pours black wi a decent tan head. The aroma is sweet, sticky, treacle, molasses, fruit cake, sugared plums, dried fruits, chocolate cookie and milk chocolate. The taste is very sweet upfront, sugary, plum, date, prune, varnish, warming alcohol, cheap chocolate, treacle and Eccles cake. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Very freaking sweet. Ok.

Bottle at Level 42 tasting, thanks to Kenny Essex, 11/07/16. Light black to rich mahogany brown with a decent tan swirl. Nose is booze tunes a dancin, spice, melted toffee, pine, earthy hops, charr. Taste comprises sweet malts, caramel dollops, sweet sweet, earthy hop, liquorice stick, light chocolate. Full bodied, cloy light, sweet finale. Ok stuff ... a touch hot, sweet and boosty and didn’t deliver the hop bitterness shot that I crave from the style ... may as well be an American strong or something ?

375ml bottle @ Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours pitch black with frothy tan head. Aroma is sweet liquorice & roast. Taste is oily with an unexpected slick sweetness that offsets the roast, with a nice subtle coffee influence creeping in on the finish. Held together extremely well. Exceptionally nice, complex Black IPA
