11th Anniversary Ale.

A blend of imperial stout, imperial brown, porter and imperial red ales, all aged in new American oak, bourbon and brandy barrels.

As a finished beer- Eleven is far more structured and refined than any previous blend. We bottled this beer a full month before release to allow it to integrate fully. It is not a beer of broad strokes or exclamation points, but a beer of subtle nuances and secrets. It best enjoyed in a half filled brandy snifter or wine glass. Allow it to warm to 55F to fully enjoy the pleasing and complex aromas. We kept the carbonation very low to compliment Eleven’s smooth texture. If left in a cool dark place, I suspect that this beer will age well.

Courtsey of Tony @ OTH. A very good and rare offering. Pours clear brown, with white head. Aroma and taste were very sweet, roasted with caramel. Oaky, leaving a liquor-like aftertaste.

(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of WeeHeavySD. Hazy amber golden with tiny impurities and a rough, off-white head. Aroma of bourbon, wood and burned caramel. Quite a rich body with roasted malt, wood, burned caramel, overripe fruit and vanilla. Has a distinct alcohol burn in the finish. 190608

Bottle. Dark mahogony brown beer with a little tan head. Sweet vanilla, caramel, bourbon aroma. Rich bourbon, vanilla, malt, toffee, caramel, oak flavor with a bit of chocolate, slight roast, and some brown sugar. Nice balance. Medium-plus body. Lingering brandy, caramel, malt, slight chocolate. Alcohol present, but nothing overpowering. Great beer.

Golden-brown colour. Light chocolate nose with some soy sauce notes and mild caramel. Alcoholic, a bit thin. Hot and dry with lifeless caramel action.

Very dark brown color with a decent beige/tan head. Vinous, dark fruit, roasted malt and vanilla aromas. Full bodied with mild and creamy carbonation. Suddenly there are woody, spiritous notes over darkly roasted malt. Still getting vanilla - could be vanillan, but what’s the difference. A bit of heat bite with some really roasted/toasted malts. A fair woody aspect, and there are heavy spirit impacts. That said, this is smooooth and tasty. Does not finish perfectly dry, but the malt sweetness is clearly balanced by the hop? Well, something is contributing some bitter. Visit Naples and die? No, drink this first, and don’t bother with Naples.

This particular bomber required a long drive over to the Solana Beach BevMo where I was given the choice to buy one or two. I chose two.

Pours a beautiful deep clear brown with tan head. The aroma is full and rich with a lot going on in there. The first bit of the nose is sweet vanilla, chocolate, mild roasty malts and a bit of caramel. Soon the varied wood notes take over with oak, cedar-like notes and fresh douglass fur. Then the booze character enters the nasal arena with brandy, whiskey and pure alcohol along with a faint leather like funk way off in the background. OK, time to finally take a taste. Like the nose I get a bit of roasty malts that slowly turn toward vanilla, chocolate and caramel. The oak, cedar and other fresh wood notes surface soon after but are more subtle in nature than indicated in the aroma. Beyond midway to the finish the brandy, whiskey, oak, caramel candy sweetness and mild alcohol hotness all mingle together and slowly bring the experience to a close. What a treat this beer is. Yum. I enjoyed it more than the Firestone 10 (which I think needed more age when I rated it).

Thanks to notalush for sharing this 22oz bottle. I was hoping a lot from this because I liked to 10 but this was disappointing. It’s like when you want to make a beer with lots of different aspects and in the end you just end up with a muddled, no-point-to-it brew. Pours a dark brown color with a small head. Aroma is full of alcohol, light astringent cherry, and dark wet wood. It’s all there but iit seems to not be backed up by anything, like a water-y kind of alcohol aroma. Taste is again boozy, not too hot but boozy. Some cherry-like alcohol and watery dark malts. I like the upfront stuff but it is not backed up by anything, not thick or malty enough for what this beer should be.
