Our Pineapple Sculpin IPA came from one of many small-batch cask experiments to enhance the flavor of our signature IPA. With so many tropical hop notes in Sculpin, how could we not try adding some sweet, juicy pineapple? The combination of fruity flavors and hop intensity definitely packs a punch.

Grapefruit, dandelion, pineapple bouquet. Crystal clear amber, medium firm head, decent lace. Grapefruit, pineapple, marshmallow peeps. Grapefruit peel finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation. More bitter than other fruited IPAs, quite good.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark copper color with a medium sized foamy white head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was pineapple, strong fruity hops and a light notes of floral and piney hops. The flavor was bitter and dryish with fruity and floral hops, cardboard and a touch of perfume. Very long finish. Moderately full bodied. Solid.

This brew is a clear orange-gold color with a medium bone white head that diminishes gradually to a film. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of pineapple, hops and malt. Medium body with flavors of tropical fruit, grassy hops and malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a pineapple and hops aftertaste. Above average, but I prefer the grapefruit version.

12 oz. bottle. Appearance is amber / orange color with a lot of clarity. Weak sticky lace along the glass. Aroma is indeed pineapple and light citrus hints (tangerine) maybe lemons.
I was very worried to try this after sampling Watermelon Dorado yesterday. Well, I already bought it so…. Here it goes. Flavor isn’t as sickly sweet that I was expecting. No fake candy / Jolly Rancher flavor I was expecting. But don’t get me wrong, this is still very sweet. The fruit kills any of the original Sculpin That I really like. Bitterness doesn’t really come through for an IPA. Thankfully this isn’t the total and complete abortion of a beer that Watermelon Dorado is; but still just an overly fruit based IPA. What is up with the high ratings? Nothing special here at all.

Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL, enjoyed at home on one of the last nights in February, getting ready for warmer weather soon! Appearance is a clean amber gold with a moderate frothy white head. Aroma is abundant with pineapple as well as mango, very nice. Taste goes down like Sculpin with a lot of pineapple notes, not necessary juice like which is nice, maintains a bitter finish. Nicely done.

Bottle from Bert’s That works so much better than I thought it would. Resinous pine and fresh pineapple juice with a faint bready malt deep underneath.

12oz bottle pours with a crystal clear gold body that supports a light tan head of foam. The aroma pulses with sweet pineapple fruitiness as well as thin ribbons of bitter citrus tangerine and grapefruit like hoppiness. The taste is similar where lots of pineapple hits with bitter citrus hops around the edges. The hops take on a faint citrus candy sensation from time to time and accompany an occasional cracker like maltiness. Plenty of pineapple going on here so if that works then this is a “go”

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 2/8/2016. Pours fairly crystal clear golden orange color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big juicy pineapple, grapefruit, tangerine, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, honey, light caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/tropical/pine hops, pineapple, and light-moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big juicy pineapple, grapefruit, tangerine, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, honey, light caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of pineapple, grapefruit, tangerine, peach, mango, lemon/orange peel, pine, honey, light caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/pine hops, pineapple, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Good amount of dryness from bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and moderately sticky/resinous mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent fruited IPA! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/pine hops, pineapple, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth, crisp, and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

12 oz bottle poured into a Spiegelau tulip. Clear golden orange with just over a finger of off-white head. Aromas of big pineapple fruit and juice mostly, subtle floral. Tastes of pineapple, citrus, floral notes. Medium body with a dry finish. Juicy mouthfeel. Nice enough but not something I’d seek out over the original.
