Keg at ushers. Pours black, nose is apple, toffee, oak, caramel, taste is similar, rich, juicy, light fruit.

Keg at the Beavertown 4th birthday event. It pours darkest brown / near black with a small tan head. The nose is rich, oily, burnt treacle, Eccles cake, plenty of dried fruits, raisin, sultana, charred wood and toast. The taste is rich, rich roasted malt, earth, salted liquorice, warming alcohol, apple brandy, fruit cake, vinous character and umami with a warming finish. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. It’s rich and good depth of flavour. An enjoyable sipping ale, but not quite the best year to date.

Tap, at Beavertown. Almost black. Messy, bubbly, tan head. Nose has fruity coffee bean. Some liquorice. Dark, roasty malts. It’s a little subtle, overall. Taste is light, roast bitter. Hints of liquorice sweetness. Smooth mouthfeel. Easy drinking. Chewy, roast bitter finish. Very decent.
