At last my Nøgne Ø #100. And not Batch #100. Do not know what batch it was anyway. I have tried a lot of weird stuff coming from that brewery. So an imperial sake saison Chinese collaboration sounded nice. And indeed it was. Especially coming in to a warm Café Sara when the rest of Oslo was completely frozen. I had my doubts, but they all went away quite fast as this liquid filled up my body.
It had a nice clear brown color with almost no head. Well my eyes did not get impressed. At first was the aroma not very much to write home about either. It was better after a while with some temperature. Solid body a quite soft carbonation. Oily texture. A bit sweet and a moderate acidity. A nice complex flavor saved the evening. Dried fruit, yeast, basement, green apples, caramel and some spices. Quite well masked alcohol.

Hefig trockener, leicht malziger Antrunk. Geringe Bitterkeit, würzig, minimale Herbe. Weich, geringe Alkoholigkeit, die aber noch deutlich stärker wird. 10/11/10/10/12/11

On tap @ Øst, Stavanger. Pours clear maroon, with almost no head. Aroma is light acetic, with sweet fruity yeast with notes of wine gums and red apples, as well as sweet roasted malts with bread, caramel, heather and some perfumey notes. Very strange and kind of confusing, but still quite nice. Full body, with very soft carbonation. Flavour is very sweet malts with toffee, pudding and raisins, as well as oak and leather. Starts out quite nice, but ends up over the top, unbalanced and rather cloying.

On tap at Café Sara, Oslo. Deep amber with a fast dissipating head. Rather vinous aroma with notes of caramel and citrus peel, dried fruit and hints of yeast. Strange stuff, but still feels kind of balanced. If it hadn’t been for the carbonation I would have guessed more in the direction of fortified wine than beer. Fairly sweet with medium flavour intensity and a light bitterness in the finish. Interesting...

On tap @ Kick. Practically clear amber body with low carbonation and a thin film of white head. Strong in aroma, caramel, dry fruit, sake yeast and warming alcohol. Flavor starts quite smooth with sweet caramel malt, dry fruit, rather strong sake flavor, some rice, fruity yeast and warming alcohol. Full bodied and long lasting aftertaste that’s a bit sticky sweet and alcoholic. Very complex, and really unusually, never ever tasted anything precise like this before. Like some kind if mix between Barley Wine and Sake. It’s pretty heavy and intense and after about one half glass it’s getting more challenging. Some beers are made to be sold and consumed in smaller glasses, I think this is one of them. Still, really, really happy to have experienced this unique beer.

On tap at Kick. A flat amber colored beer. Sugary sweet aroma with red apples and a woody touch. Caramel, alcohol, dried fruits, plums and sake fruityness. It’s full bodied, warming and smooth on the palate, with a soft carbonation. Dried fruits, alcohol, caramel, baked apples, some spices and a sake hint in the flavor. Everlasting finish with a pleasant warmth and lots of sake character. Lovely but too intense. Super complex. 151208
