Helder geel bier met mooie schuimkraag. Smaak is licht bitter hoppig en licht zuur fruitig met iets van banaan en citrus.

@ Vismarkt, Nieuwpoort. Clear golden colour, white foam. Quiet fruity, notes of lemon, coriander, some banana. Bit unbalanced, not very refreshing.

Good, thick and dense light yellowish, quite whipped eggwhite-like head over lightly carbonated clear golden beer. Spicy-liqueurish, wood-lagered spirit nose. Slightly sweetish, but mainly lihgly spicy pale malts. Rather attractive. Bitterish-sweet, lightly root spices, hints at cinnamon, ginger, coriander, speculoosherbs, liquorice; but also quite a bit of bananaester. Not very outspoken, but balance in return. Unfortunately, the bananaester fast grows (too) strong, warming up, dulling the character. Light body, quite slick texture, low carbonation. So far the best of the A's L series - a blond beer with faint X-mas spices' notes, but all held in check for a reasonably good result. Maybe Palm, sorry, De Hoorn, sorry, Swinckels, sorry.... ought to hire chefs instead of their own brewmasters?

The seventh, limited edition in this – so far – disappointing series of ‘craft beers’, this one mentioning wood (chips, no doubt) as an added ingredient and developed for ‘t Zilte, a two-star restaurant in Antwerp run by the Mr. Geunes mentioned in this beer’s full name. This man is ultimately responsible for Rodenbach Charactère Rouge, so I had quite a bit of hope for this beer. Produces a thick, even-bubbled, lacing, snow white, foamy but eventually collapsing and dissolving head; initially almost clear, bright yellow golden colour with fierce sparkling, turning misty and a bit more peach-hued with sediment. Aroma has a surprisingly huge amount of isoamylacetate, to the point that banana-flavoured bubblegum and even banana milkshake spring to mind as first impressions, followed by candy apple, cream, white bread dough, pumpkin soup, meringue, vanilla custard (probably ‘vanilla’ from oak chips), coriander seed, star anise, moist white pepper. Unsurprisingly, the flavour starts with very strong, sweet banana ester, very bubblegummy with side aspects of pear and pineapple; minerally, lively carbonation in a slick, cereally, ‘simple’ white bready body; the banana effect goes on and on, over a very subtle vanilla-ish wood touch, a spicy and leafy hop note not providing enough bitterness and some warming, clean wodka-like alcohol in the tail. Banana and malt sweetness keep prevailing. With the wood ingredient remaining all but invisible, this is what it is: another generic sweet tripel, this time with an immense amount of the banana ester some love and others hate. I can imagine this beer pleasing less educated beer drinkers – especially with the name of a reputed chef attached to it – but if Michelin-starred restaurant owners think this is beer at a high level, as seems to be the case here, then this only proves that in ‘higher’ culinary echelons, there is still an enormous amount of work afoot to get beer at the same level of attention and intellectual value as wine. Once again, Arthur’s Legacy fails to impress – big time.

10/II/16 - on tap @ De Geus van Gent - BB: n/a (2016-148)

Clear pale yellow beer, creamy white head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: fruity, spicy touch, bit grassy, notes of vanilla, lots of banana. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: lots of banana, little bitter, sweet, quite some yeast, coriander notes. Aftertaste: more banana, sweet malts, bit sugary, green banana, some aniseed, cloves, bit of cinnamon. Underwhelming.

Thank you! 750 ml. bottle sampled @ Kerstbierfestival Essen. Created for the same restaurant that brought us the first batch of Rodenbach Caractère Rouge. Apparently limited to 200 bottles. Label appears to imply Sherry barrel aging but I am not getting any clarity nor do I pick up any barrel in the taste. Hazy bright golden, non-lasting head. Nose is incredibly big & sweet banana, light vanilla, sugar, candy, sweet & very simple. Taste is fizzy big sweet banana, candy, light esters, vanilla, very basic & simple but agreeable enough given the good banana candy sweetness. Bit fizzy. Very fizzy but agreeable, very mainstream, better than the 2 other Arthur’s Legacy beers that I have tried but overall still just a decent sweet banana forward Belgian. Nothing that you need to pay much attention towards.
