A Caledonian classic, this Wee Heavy is made using six malts – with not a new world hop in sight. Smooth caramel and biscuit notes come to the fore in this rich, full-bodied ale.

30/3/2021. Bottle sample courtesy of danlo, cheers Ed. Pours clear deep reddish brown with a small bubbly/frothy off-white head. Aroma is malty, toffee, rich fruit cake, molasses, dried fruits, brown bread. Medium plus sweetness and moderate bitterness. Medium to full bodied, slick texture, soft carbonation. Rich fruity toffee finish. Enjoyed this.

330ml bottle. Chestnut brown colour, thin beige foam head that dissipates to a thin rim and aroma of rich malt, fruitcake. Taste is sweet malty, toffee, caramel, treacle, with chocolate & fruity orange hints and some earthy nutty bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, rich malty & toffee at the finish. Nicely drinkable.

Same 330ml bottle as everyone else got: BB 31st Mar 2021. Drank at my house on 10th Oct 2020. Poured into my thistle shaped glass to make it feel home. Ruby hue to the body, lightly tanned head. Malts rule the nose and taste with caramel sweetness to the fore, toffee apple flavours too. Liked it.

330ml bottle from Waitrose, Newport, Shropshire. Pours deep chestnut brown, off-white froth atop. Aroma is nutty with an appealing malt sweetness. Taste presents an admirable treacle-ladened wee-heavy character, lots of underlying nutty malt, some toffee notes. Nice.

Bottle from the no-longer-open Waitrose in Oadby as part of the Fuller's & Friends pack. I didn't realise I still had one of these left! It's dark brown, a little bit ruby, kind of translucent. A small ring of khaki head. Boozy aroma, molasses, malt, toffee, some stone fruit. Sweet and malty in the initial taste, but there's a hoppy bitterness that comes in quite quickly. A medicinal bitter note in the finish, with catarrh syrup in the finish. Medium carbonation. Quite a lively recipe.

Huge thanks to Erzengel for sharing! Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass zippy, brownish, small head. Roasty aroma. Starts intense malty, roasty, some earthy-woody notes as well. Finish more balanced, fine roasty-malty. Nice!
