Pours dark amber/brown with a large, lasting head.Nose shows lots of sweet caramel, vanilla, floral notes, oak, soft alcohol and light spicy hops. Very sweet smelling. Also present is a perfume-like character.Similar flavours: caramel, vanilla, chocolate, oak, creme brulee, alcohol, spicy notes.Very creamy, slick mouthfeel, personally I think it could do with a bit more carbonation.Very nice stuff, though I can see how it may have been a little hot when young.

Bottle at a tasting, thanks to Paul. Pours hazy, purple-brown with a medium, off-white head. Ripe fruits and heavy malts on the nose, some Annie’s mac n’ cheese. Extremely sweet, lots of baked beans (which I love!) And toffee, some ripe fruits, mild booze. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Decent warm finish, some more baked beans, toffee, brown sugar, some vanilla. Tons of sugar. Good stuff.

Bottle, 22oz. An unclear, dark amber beer with a finger-thick, off-white to beige head. Caramel and sugary dried fruits on the nose, maybe not sounding too good, which it is, but it is a bit boring. The flavor has a meaty intro, with caramel, raisins and some alcohol following. Warming and full-bodied on the palate, with a lasting dried fruits finish. A quite nice one, and though it might seem from my rating that I enjoyed aroma and flavor equally, I didn’t. The aroma is sort of boring or one dimensional, the flavor is more complex and in fact really good. Anyway, a nice beer. 110204

Clear red - brown beer. Very soft palate. Sweet creamy buttery toffee and caramel. Some tangy sweet fruit coming through before the end which is soft and creamy with a trace of more bittering toffee. Enjoyed this but really quite sweet. A dessert beer?

Amber color, of a very dark shade; medium-sized compact head. It has a very nice aroma, of malt toffee and vanilla oak, more wood; mild. Soft and round body; there is a very good caramel and toffee flavor, with harmonious vanilla and oak, making it a bit buttery. Good bitterness, but not covering the malt profile. Excellent.

Oaky horehound nose with date and orange peel accents, strong. Hazy ochre, no head. Flavor is more date than horehound, with a surge of maraschino cherries at midpalate and beyond. Subtle cereal grains in the finish, strong presence of oak throughout. Alcohol content noticeable but downplayed nicely. Robust with an outstanding use of oak

From a 650ml bottle (shared) on 12/3/2011. Pours a reddish brown, with virtually no head. Has a very strong and distinct caramel aroma with some vanilla and nuts. In the mouth, sweet caramel and toffee flavours dominate with some aniseed, and a curious strong, nutty hop finish. The alcohol is quite pronounced, though you’d expect that for something that’s 11%. This is an unusual, interesting and full on beer, if not quite a complete winner.

Pours clear reddish brown color with thin tan head. Aromas of dark fruits, caramel, vanilla and oak. Sweet caramel and plum flavors with vanilla and a hint of oak. Alcohol is pretty well hidden for 11%. Medium to full body with minimal carbonation and a syrupy body. A nice sipper.
