Pour is more dirty river water brown with a small tan head. Aroma is molasses and tootsie roll sweetness. Flavor is more molasses and toffee with some dark candi sugar. Very malty and chewy with a nice Belgian yeast ester and ever some chocolate shows up. Either the best buy or bottled on date is 8/18/2016 so this beer is going on 5 years old but it's still drinking good.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours clear dark brown with a creamy/foamy beige or tan head. Aroma of roasty malt and dark fruits. Med plus body. Flavor is roasty malt with some dark fruit; overall effect is dark fruit. Just not sure what to say about hop. Moderately dry. This isn't bitter, but seems hopped. Maybe there's some clove - think so. Nice flavor.

Dark amber, thin head. Sweet, phenolic nose, bubblegum mess aroma. Sweet, bit thin, phenols and shit. Doing nothing.

Bottle at PIB 2017, pours a deep dark reddish brown with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out a nice Belgian yeast character, candied sugar, bubblegum and dark fruits. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of candied sugar, dark fruits, a little bubblegum and Belgian yeast. Complex yeast character really drives this. Surprisingly great.

16/XI/16 - 33cl bottle from the brewery @ home - BB: 18/VIII/16, lot 10:07 16099 (2016-1307) Thanks to Wouter P. for the bottle!
Clear purplish brown beer, big fizzy crackling beige head, falls down steadily, little stable. Aroma: liquorish, dried fruits, some caramel, lots and lots of overripe fruits, banana, toffee, raisins. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet start, caramel, fudge, soft roast, some mocha, ripe banana, spices, liquorish. Aftertaste: banana peel, soft bitterness, caramel, soft roast, some dark chocolate, pretty dry finish, spicy, some liquorish and aniseed notes. This is practically like a Gouden Carolus Classic. Note: after inquiring it seems that there's just one ingredient less than in the GC Classic.
