"Can you fill these empty barrels with something fun?" That was the challenge Kjetil presented me with over a coffee a stormy Tuesday morning in October."How about something strong and dark?" I wondered. "25% dark malts, 30% rye, 28 degres Plato."That’ll never work." said Kjetil. 1 kilo malts/L, 48 hours of brewing and 2 years on old Armanac barrels later, I feel free to say: "Well, wouldn’t you know... it worked".

330 ml bottle. Pours an opaque black with a small, short lived, dark brown head that laces. Roasted malt aroma with liquorice, dark chocolate, alcohol and coffee. Sweet flavour of liquorice, roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee and dried fruit with a mildly bitter, warming alcohol finish. Full body with a smooth, creamy, oily texture and soft carbonation. Delicious. A very nice brew.

330ml bottle, batch 882, from Vinmonopolet Langnes. Motor oily pour creating a shiny black surface and a pitch black body. Smell of roasted dark malts, dark berries, bread, and wood. Comprehensive taste with black treacle upfront joined by dark bread, espresso and salty liquorice. Woody. Deep malt-fruity bitterness to the ending warming down the throat. Decent slow sipper (Tromsø 30.06.2015).

Seventh and final beer at Nøgne TAP birthday lunch. Dark rich black pour with tan head. Aroma is raisin, bread, soy, chocolate, sharp booze. Taste is very much a product of the Armagnac - rich chocolate and sharp booze. Very sharp. Interesting but wouldn't get again.

Svart farge med tybnt lag med brunt skum. Lukter av mørke stenfrukter, kaffe, salt lakris og alkohol. God sødme i smaken med kaffe, salt lakris preg. Meget fyldig og lang søtlig avslutning. Serveres gjerne i cognac glass. Meget god. Svart med helt lavt brunt skum.

A black beer with a medium and dark brown head. Aroma has roasted malts, overriped fruits, liquirice and some vanilla and menthol -chewing gum. Taste has coffee and roastiness, quite strong sweetness, salt liquirice, overriped and grape like fruitness thus propably Armagnac. Full bodied, oily in the glass, drinkable, anyway. Unique notes from the used barrel.
